Maruti Ertiga Mileage 2026: Petrol Vs CNG Vs Automatic Compared
Table of Content

The Maruti Ertiga has built a strong presence in India’s MPV segment by offering three row seating while staying easy to handle on Indian roads. Over the years, it has become a familiar choice for families and buyers who regularly travel with more passengers. With fuel expenses forming a major part of running costs, mileage remains an important factor when choosing between its different powertrain options.

The Ertiga mileage varies depending on the fuel type and transmission. The current model is offered with a petrol engine paired with either a manual or automatic gearbox, along with a factory fitted CNG option. While the petrol versions offer different levels of convenience, the CNG model brings a different running cost advantage. This comparison looks at their official figures, real world mileage and fuel costs to explain what buyers can expect in everyday driving.

Maruti Ertiga ARAI Mileage 2026: Check All Figures

The current Ertiga uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine, with the petrol version available with manual and automatic transmissions. However, the CNG version is offered with a manual gearbox. The figures below are company-claimed ARAI numbers tested under standard conditions.

Maruti Ertiga Petrol Mileage: What to Expect

Maruti Ertiga Smart Hybrid engine.webp

This Ertiga petrol manual features Suzuki's Smart Hybrid system with an Integrated Starter Generator. Regenerates energy while braking and stores it in the battery. The system includes brake energy regeneration, torque assist and idle start-stop to decrease fuel consumption.

Under real conditions, the petrol manual can get back up to 14 to 16 km/l in city driving. This can be improved to approximately 16 to 18 km/l when driving along the highways with steady speeds and smooth inputs. You will still experience a change in your Ertiga petrol average with traffic, load and air-conditioner usage. The mild hybrid system is especially beneficial when stopping and starting frequently, such as in traffic, which would otherwise cause higher gas consumption from repeated idling and accelerating.

Maruti Ertiga CNG Mileage: City Vs Highway

Maruti Ertiga CNG mileage and boot space.webp

The Ertiga CNG can achieve a range of 22-24 km per kg of CNG in the city and 24-26 km per kg on highways under normal driving conditions. These figures can vary between users due to different driving conditions, driving habits and numbers of passengers and air-conditioning.

The car uses a 60 litre water equivalent cylinder with a fill of around 9-9.5 kg. On a daily basis, the CNG system will enable a car to run on CNG for approximately 200-245 km. It will also decrease the available boot space compared to the petrol version.

Ertiga Automatic Mileage Explained

The Ertiga automatic gets a 6 speed torque converter gearbox, which makes gear changes easier during regular driving. Its ARAI certified mileage is 20.30 km/l, which is only slightly lower than the 20.51 km/l figure of the petrol manual.

In daily use, the automatic can deliver around 14 to 16 km/l in city traffic and 16 to 18 km/l on highways. The difference is usually more noticeable in stop-and-go traffic, while steady highway speeds can help maintain better fuel efficiency.

Is the Maruti Ertiga Diesel Still Available in India?

The diesel Ertiga is no longer sold as a new car in India. Its 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine was discontinued around the time 2020 came by after the introduction of BS6 regulations, meaning that buyers today will have to look into the used car market. The older versions of the diesel Ertiga had excellent fuel consumption, depending on the model year and test cycle.

Real Monthly Fuel Cost Comparison: Petrol Vs CNG

Maruti Ertiga petrol vs CNG mileage.webp

A monthly distance of 1,500 km gives a useful way to understand the running-cost difference between the three options. Petrol and CNG are priced differently, while the automatic also uses slightly more fuel in typical city conditions. The table below converts these differences into an estimated monthly expense, making it easier to see how much you may spend on fuel over the same distance.

Variant

Real-World Figure Used

Avg. Fuel Price

Fuel Required for 1,500 km

Estimated Monthly Cost

Petrol – Manual

17 km/l

Rs. 113.07/litre

88.2 litres

Rs. 9,974

Petrol – Automatic

15 km/l

100 litres

Rs. 11,307

CNG – Manual

23 km/kg

Rs. 97.50/kg

65.2 kg

Rs. 6,359

Based on these example figures, the CNG version costs about Rs. 3,615 less per month than the petrol manual. The saving rises to around Rs. 4,948 compared with the petrol automatic. Actual expenses can change with local fuel prices, traffic, driving habits and the vehicle’s condition.

Tips to Improve Your Ertiga Mileage

The Ertiga can be driven more economically with a few adjustments to driving and regular checks and repairs. These measures are beneficial to both petrol and CNG variants and are particularly helpful while driving in city traffic.

  • Keep tyres at recommended pressure: Tyres will have rolling resistance and excessive fuel consumption due to the tyres running at the wrong pressure.
  • Turn off the engine during longer stops – unnecessary idling is fuel wasted without distance gain.
  • Replace the air filter at the recommended intervals: A clean air filter will allow the right amount of airflow into the engine and allow the combustion to be efficient.
  • Follow all recommended service intervals: Regular service is important to keep the engine, fluids and other parts in good working order.
  • Smooth acceleration: Smooth up-shifts and accelerations will help reduce fuel usage, as opposed to hard throttle inputs.
  • Wait till the engine is warm before switching to CNG: Start on petrol and then switch to CNG for smooth functioning and efficiency.

Ertiga Vs Rivals: How Does Its Mileage Compare?

Maruti Ertiga vs rivals.webp

The Ertiga shares its powertrain with the Toyota Rumion and Maruti XL6, making them useful models for a fuel efficiency comparison. The Rumion is a badge-engineered version of the Ertiga, with the same basic engine and transmission choices, so its certified figures are almost identical. Similarly, the XL6 also uses the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, while the Kia Carens offers a wider choice of petrol and diesel engines.

Conclusion

The Ertiga offers different advantages depending on how and where you drive. CNG keeps running costs lower, while the petrol automatic adds convenience for regular city use. The petrol manual sits between the two with a straightforward balance of efficiency and driving control. Overall, choosing the right Ertiga comes down to your monthly driving, road conditions and preference for lower running costs or added convenience.
