Mercedes-Benz India has taken a giant step in its electrification strategy by rolling out the locally manufactured, all-new Electric GLC 400 4MATIC. According to the official sources, the production will take place from its Chakan facility in Pune.
VIP guests like Sh. Devendra Fadnavis (CM of Maharashtra), Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and Mercedes-Benz Group AG Chairman Ola Källenius rolled off the assembly line. With this, the luxury electric SUV marks a historic milestone as the brand's first model in India built on the dedicated 'MB.EA-M' architecture.
Flexible Manufacturing Meets High-Tech Performance
The Electric GLC is assembled on the same flexible line as Mercedes-Benz India's combustion engine (ICE) lineup, backed by a fresh Rs. 200 crore investment in 2026 for production start-ups, digitisation and AI integration.

- Public Charging Ecosystem: Through the MB.CHARGE Public network, buyers get integrated access to over 22,000 public charge points across India.
- Innovative Charging Choice: As an alternative to the complimentary AC wall-box charger, Mercedes-Benz offers new BEV buyers the choice of 2,500 kWh of complimentary public charging credits valid for 24 months.
Car Junction's Insights
The local assembly of the Electric GLC will give Mercedes-Benz a strong competitive edge by allowing aggressive pricing while delivering flagship tech like the 800V charging system and MB.OS.
We also believe the decision to offer 2,500 kWh of public charging credits instead of a home charger will appeal strongly to modern urban buyers. Especially those who rely on fast public networks during intercity travel. Looking ahead, the Electric GLC is well-positioned to disrupt the segment, going up against key rivals like the BMW iX3, Audi Q8 e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace.
