New Maruti Victoris Spied: Is Maruti Testing an E85 or Biogas Version?

Summarize this blog post with:
The Maruti Victoris has been spotted testing, with details raising questions about its possible fuel technology. The test vehicle has sparked speculation about an E85 flex fuel version or a biogas powered setup.
However, neither possibility has been officially confirmed, and the sighting alone does not establish what Maruti Suzuki is developing.
For buyers, the development could matter if it leads to a new fuel option. Lower running costs and easier fuel access would be key factors in deciding whether such a version makes sense. For now, buyers should treat both possibilities as speculation rather than confirmed product plans.
Maruti Victoris Spied Testing: What Could Be Changing?
The test mule of the Maruti car was spotted under full camouflage, with temporary red registration plates carrying the HR26 code. This code points to Gurugram North, including Manesar, where Maruti Suzuki has a major manufacturing presence.
The sighting has two possible explanations:
- E85 flex fuel: A petrol engine adapted to run on higher ethanol blends.
- Compressed biogas (CBG): A renewable fuel made from biomethane produced using organic waste.
Neither option has been confirmed for this test vehicle.
Could the Victoris Get E85 Flex Fuel Technology?
E85 fuel contains up to 85% ethanol, unlike E20, which contains 20% ethanol. An E85 compatible engine needs changes to its fuel storage, delivery and injection systems.
Maruti Suzuki has already showcased the WagonR Flex Fuel in India. That model uses a modified 1.2 litre K12 engine designed for fuel blends ranging from E20 to E85.
If the Victoris is testing this technology, it could use the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. However, the test vehicle's engine specifications remain unconfirmed.
For buyers, the benefits would depend on fuel availability, pricing and real world efficiency. Higher ethanol content alone does not guarantee lower running costs.
CBG Powered Victoris is Another Possibility
The second possibility is a CBG powered Victoris. Maruti Suzuki showcased a CBG version of the SUV at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025.
That concept used hardware based on the Victoris CNG and was adapted to burn compressed biomethane. It also featured a dedicated CBG filling nozzle inside the fuel filler area.
CBG differs from conventional CNG because it comes from organic matter, including agricultural and dairy waste. It offers a renewable fuel pathway, although widespread adoption depends on refuelling infrastructure.
If Maruti introduces this setup, buyers would need to consider fuel station access alongside purchase price and running costs.
What About Rivals and Launch Plans?
The Victoris sits within Maruti Suzuki's SUV range alongside the Grand Vitara. Other competitors in the broader segment include the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
A new fuel option could help the Victoris stand out, but there is no confirmed launch timeline or pricing information yet.
For now, the spy shots suggest Maruti Suzuki may be exploring another alternative fuel application. Buyers should wait for official details before making decisions based on E85 or CBG capability.
Car Junction Insights
In my view, a flex fuel or CBG powered Maruti Victoris could be an interesting move, but the real test will be affordability and everyday convenience. Buyers will want lower running costs without compromising practicality. I would also wait for confirmed specifications, fuel availability and pricing before judging whether either option offers genuine ownership benefits.
