Maruti Suzuki has officially rolled out its Auto Green Mission. This goes as the company presents its three most popular models: Swift, Dzire and Baleno with the automatic S-CNG variants.
The initiative aims to offer urban drivers two-pedal driving convenience alongside low running costs and high fuel efficiency. With this S-CNG technology, Dzire becomes the most fuel efficient sedan with mileage topping around 36.47 km/kg, claimed by the automaker.
Powertrain & Technical Specifications
All three automatic S-CNG Maruti models will use the company’s trusted Z12E series 1.2 L engine. Along with that, those will be equipped with Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology. The engine is paired with a 5-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS/AMT) transmission system. This allows drivers to switch between automatic gear changes and manual clutchless shifting.
Performance Metrics:
- Petrol Mode: Peak power of 82.93 PS (61 kW) at 5,700 rpm. Peak torque of 112.4 Nm at 4,500 rpm
- CNG Mode: Generating lesser peak power of 69.75 PS (51.3 kW) at 5,700 rpm. Maximum torque attained is 101.8 Nm at 2,900 rpm
- Fuel Capacities: 37 Litres Petrol | 55 Litres CNG (water filling capacity)

Leadership Perspective on Green Mobility
Outlining the strategic objective behind the Auto Green Mission launch, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated:
"We at Maruti Suzuki are always listening to our customers. With modern Indian cities experiencing rapid growth, new-age customers are looking for the convenience of an automatic car without compromising on fuel-efficiency and performance in traffic conditions. Under the Auto Green Mission, our new range of automatic S-CNG models are perfectly suited for today's aspirational customers who seek the best of both worlds. The Swift, Dzire and Baleno are some of the country's bestselling cars, the introduction of the automatic S-CNG models is sure to delight customers and make these incredible cars win even more hearts."
Highlighting the rapid market acceptance of factory-fitted CNG models, he added:
"We have been receiving unprecedented demand for our S-CNG range of vehicles as evolving, environmentally conscious customer expectations are driving acceptance for eco-friendly options across all segments. During the first quarter of this year, we experienced a 58% increase in sales over the same quarter last year for our S-CNG vehicles. In July, we recorded the highest-ever S-CNG vehicle sales in a month at 83,000 units. The introduction of the new automatic S-CNG range of cars is sure to contribute to the growing share of clean and green cars in India."
Car Junction’s Take
The factory-fitted CNG cars traditionally forced Indian buyers to settle for manual gearboxes, creating a clear gap in heavy urban traffic conditions. Also, now the Z-Series 1.2L engine is paired with an affordable 5-speed AMT under the 'Auto Green Mission'. Through this, Maruti Suzuki effectively addresses the daily commuter's biggest dilemma. Delivering up to 36.47 km/kg with two-pedal convenience gives the company an unbeatable value proposition over conventional petrol automatics.
