Skoda Superb Diesel India Launch Expected In 2027

Skoda Auto India is preparing to bring the Superb back to the country in 2027. The flagship sedan is expected to arrive during the first half of 2027. This will mark the return of the Superb after a two year absence. The previous generation returned briefly as a completely built unit. Skoda imported only 100 units during its second stint.

The latest fourth generation Superb debuted globally in late 2023. Skoda also showcased the new model at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025.

Superb Expected To Get Diesel Engine

The upcoming Skoda Superb is expected to return with a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine. This will mark Skoda's return to diesel engines in India. The Volkswagen Group discontinued diesel engines in India before the BS6 emission norms arrived. Since then, Skoda has offered only petrol powered models locally.

The diesel engine could become one of the Superb's biggest selling points. India currently has limited choices for premium diesel sedans. Skoda expects some demand to remain for diesel powered luxury cars. The Superb could therefore target buyers seeking a premium sedan with a diesel engine.

The model is expected to be imported as a completely built unit. It will sit above other Skoda models as the brand's flagship offering.

Superb Could Strengthen Skoda's Premium Image

The Superb has played an important role in Skoda's premium positioning in India. Its return could offer customers a larger sedan Cars amid the growing popularity of Popular SUVs. It may also attract buyers looking for a premium alternative to SUVs.

The Superb could also target the Toyota Camry in India's premium sedan segment. However, its pricing will remain crucial for its success. As a CBU, the Superb would normally attract significant import duties. Local assembly is currently unlikely because of production limitations at its Bratislava plant.

However, the upcoming India European Union free trade agreement could change the equation. The agreement is expected to take effect from next year. Lower import duties could help Skoda price the Superb more competitively. This could make the upcoming sedan more attractive to Indian buyers.

The new Superb is expected to arrive in a fully loaded specification. Its estimated price could be around Rs. 55 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh. With a diesel engine and premium positioning, the Superb could bring fresh competition to India's luxury sedan market.
