MG SELECT Introduces Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) for Cyberster and M9 Luxury EVs
Google News

- MG Cyberster BaaS pricing starts at Rs. 72.49 lakh + Rs. 8/km battery rental.
- Luxury MG M9 MPV introduced under BaaS at Rs. 69.99 lakh + Rs. 8/km rental.
- Lowers upfront acquisition cost for luxury EV buyers across India.
MG SELECT, the luxury retail channel of JSW MG Motor India, has officially introduced its innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership programme. The scheme is being offered for MG’s two flagship electric vehicles: the MG Cyberster roadster and the MG M9 luxury MPV. The initiative aims to offer high-end buyers enhanced flexibility by decoupling the vehicle's initial purchase cost from the battery pack.
Flexible Ownership via BaaS Pricing
Under the newly introduced BaaS scheme, the upfront purchase cost for both luxury vehicles sees a significant reduction:
- MG Cyberster: Available at an introductory BaaS price of Rs. 72.49 lakh, complemented by a battery rental fee of Rs. 8.00 per km.
- MG M9: Offered at an introductory BaaS price of Rs. 69.99 lakh, also paired with a Rs. 8.00 per km battery rental model.
By shifting the battery cost to a usage-based operational model, MG SELECT enables customers to enter the luxury electric vehicle space with lower starting cost. This is while retaining comprehensive battery health assurances.
Performance and Executive Comfort
The MG Cyberster serves as the brand's performance halo vehicle, drawing styling inspiration from the heritage MGB Roadster. It features signature electric scissor doors, a low-slung stance, and a cockpit-style interior layout. Driven by an all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup, it delivers a strong 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque. This power can accelerate the sports from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.2 seconds.
In contrast, the other MG car, M9 targets executive transport and premium family travel. Its interior features customizable Presidential Seats with 16-way electric adjustments, heating, ventilation and 8 distinct massage modes. Ambient lighting with 64 colors, a dual yacht-style sunroof, a 13-speaker audio system and Level 2 ADAS. It is certified with 5-star safety ratings from EURO NCAP and ANCAP round out its cabin amenities.
Both models are retailed through MG SELECT's network of gallery-inspired Experience Centres, which currently spans 15 locations across 14 major Indian cities.
Car Junction’s Take
Introducing Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) to the upper-echelon luxury EV market is a disruptive move by MG SELECT. Earlier BaaS proved hugely successful for mainstream electric cars like the Windsor EV by lowering entry barriers. This time, the attempt is to bring this model to Rs. 70+ lakh vehicles alters the depreciation and ownership math for high-net-worth buyers.
It mitigates long-term battery degradation concerns, one of the biggest resale hazards for luxury EVs, and allows buyers to lower upfront capital outlay. This strategic extension makes high-performance flagships like the Cyberster and executive haulers like the M9 substantially more accessible against traditional luxury rivals.
