MG Hector Tomahawk EV vs Tata Harrier EV: Which One is Better?
Table of Content

Electric SUVs are no longer competing only on range. Buyers now look at the price, charging time, performance and how comfortably an EV fits into everyday life. This shift is clearly visible in India, where newer EVs are offering larger battery packs, more power and claimed ranges beyond 500 km. One of such evidence we can see is Tata Harrier EV and the recently launched MG Hector Tomahawk EV, both offering strong competition against each other.

In the comparison of MG Hector Tomahawk EV vs Tata Harrier EV, we’ll compare their pricing, range, performance and other aspects. One brings a 69.2 kWh battery and a claimed 517 km range, while the other promises more performance and range. But numbers alone do not tell the whole story. From pricing and road presence to comfort and driving experience, here is how these two electric SUVs compare.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV vs Tata Harrier EV: Pricing

Harrier EV vs Tomahawk EV price comparison.webp

Price is probably the first thing that separates these two SUVs. The Hector Tomahawk EV starts lower, making it easier to enter the premium electric SUV space without crossing the Rs. 20 lakh mark. The Harrier EV, meanwhile, starts slightly higher and stretches well into the Rs. 30 lakh range for its top variants.

At first glance, the Hector Tomahawk EV has a clear pricing advantage. Its starting price is Rs. 2 lakh lower than the Harrier EV and the gap becomes considerably wider as you move towards the top variants. This makes the MG particularly interesting for buyers who want a large electric SUV without stretching towards the Rs. 30 lakh mark.

There is another reason why the Hector Tomahawk EV stands out on price. MG also offers a Battery as a Service (BaaS) option, which brings its starting price down to Rs. 13.99 lakh. The catch is a battery rental charge of Rs. 4.90 per km, so the lower upfront price needs to be weighed against how much you drive.

Harrier EV vs Hector Tomahawk: Exterior and Road Presence Compared

Harrier EV vs Tomahawk EV exterior comparison.webp

The Hector Tomahawk EV and Harrier EV both have the size to stand out, but their designs go in different directions. The Hector Tomahawk EV follows a more upright, conventional SUV profile, while the Harrier EV looks wider and more futuristic. The difference is noticeable even before getting into the dimensions.

MG's advantage is its sheer size. At 4,745 mm, the Hector Tomahawk EV is 138 mm longer than the Harrier EV and also has a 69 mm longer wheelbase. It is taller as well, giving it that big, upright SUV appearance. The 18-inch alloy wheels may look slightly less dramatic than the Tata's 19-inchers, but they also suit its more family-oriented character.

The Harrier EV takes a different route. It is shorter, but its 1,922 mm width makes it 72 mm wider than the Hector Tomahawk EV. Add the larger 19-inch wheels, full-width DRLs and connected rear lights and it has a more planted and contemporary look. The design also does a better job of making the Harrier EV look like an electric SUV rather than simply an electrified version of a conventional one.

There is also a practical difference worth noting. The Hector Tomahawk EV's longer body and wheelbase contribute to its imposing stance, while the Harrier EV's greater width and larger wheels give it a sportier appearance. So, the MG looks bigger, but the Tata looks broader and more aggressive.

Verdict: If you want a large, imposing family SUV, the Hector Tomahawk EV has the edge. If a wider stance, larger wheels and more futuristic detailing matter more, the Harrier EV makes the stronger visual statement.

MG Hector Tomahawk Vs Tata Harrier EV: Interior and Comfort

The Hector Tomahawk EV and Harrier EV both try to make their cabins feel more like premium lounges than regular SUV interiors. However, their approaches are slightly different. MG puts a lot of emphasis on screen technology, connectivity and flexible seating, while Tata focuses more on rear seat comfort and a premium, feature rich cabin.

The Hector Tomahawk EV has one obvious advantage: flexibility. It can be had with five or seven seats, and its 2,810 mm wheelbase provides plenty of room for passengers. MG also claims 85% usable floor space, which should help make the cabin feel more open.

The Harrier EV, meanwhile, takes a more premium approach to passenger comfort. Its BOSS Mode lets the rear passenger move the front passenger seat forward to create more legroom. Higher variants also get features such as memory seats and ORVMs, powered and ventilated front seats, rear comfort headrests and a centre armrest with cupholders.

MG fights back with technology. Its 15.6-inch screen is larger than the Harrier's 14.5-inch unit, while the 10-speaker Infinity system, 50W cooled wireless charger and GenAI voice assistant give the cabin plenty of talking points. It even gets unusual cabin modes such as Nap, Camp and Pro Pet, which are more than just gimmicks for buyers who spend a lot of time inside their cars.

The Harrier EV has the stronger argument if rear passenger comfort is your priority. The Hector Tomahawk EV makes more sense for families who want maximum seating flexibility and a technology loaded cabin. The choice becomes particularly interesting because the MG can accommodate two additional passengers when needed, something the five seat Harrier simply cannot match.

Verdict: Hector Tomahawk EV wins for cabin flexibility and technology, while Harrier EV has the edge in outright rear seat comfort and premium touches.

Tata Harrier or MG Harrier Tomahawk: Which has Better Battery, Range and Charging?

Harrier EV vs Tomahawk EV battery comparison.webp

This is where the Harrier EV pulls ahead on paper. The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a single 69.2 kWh battery with a claimed 517 km range, while the Harrier EV offers 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs. Harrier EV range can get upto 627 km, due to its available battery. Powrtrain also matters as former is attained in RWD and 622 km with AWD.

See how Harrier Electric overtakes Tomahawk EV purely in performance. Its 120 kW DC capability can top-up the battery faster which is better on frequent highway trips. The MG’s EV has got a slower 90 kW setup, but the claimed 517 km range is still enough for regular usage.

For buyers who regularly cover long distances, Harrier EV's higher range and faster charging make a more convincing combination.

Verdict: Tata Harrier EV wins on battery choices, range and charging speed.

Tata Harrier EV vs MG Harrier Tomahawk EV: Performance and Driving Experience

Harrier EV vs Tomahawk EV performance comparison.webp

The Hector Tomahawk EV is no slouch. Its 150 kW motor produces 201 bhp and 310 Nm, enough to take this large SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.2 seconds. For everyday city driving and highway overtakes, that is plenty of performance.

The Harrier EV is in another league when performance is the priority. Its dual motor setup produces up to 390 bhp and 504 Nm, while the AWD system can send power to all four wheels. The result is a claimed 0 - 100 kmph time of just 6.3 seconds.

That difference should also show up during overtaking and spirited highway driving. The Hector Tomahawk EV should feel smooth and adequate, but the Harrier EV has considerably more punch in reserve. Its AWD hardware also gives it an advantage when tackling slippery roads or rougher terrain.

Verdict: Tata Harrier EV wins comfortably on performance. The Hector Tomahawk EV is capable enough for everyday driving, but the Harrier's stronger motors, quicker acceleration and AWD capability make it the more exciting SUV to drive.

Summing Up

We’ve seen both cases and how Hector Tomahawk EV vs Harrier EV makes the trajectory. The MG Hector Tomahawk is a stronger case if the requirement is larger proportion, flexible seating, technically rich cabin - all at a lower price. Meanwhile, Harrier EV focus is more on performance, offers wider bearing, higher range, faster charging and more power.

So, if your priority is family usability and price, genuinely go for Hector Tomahawk EV. On the other hand, if you want a proper EV serving its purpose strongly, go with the Tata Harrier EV.
