FADA July PV Retails Hits Historic 4,16,555 Units

Indian auto retail achieved a surge with an all-time high monthly volumes across every vehicle category. In the Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment, retail registrations crossed the four-lakh threshold for any July month for the first time on record, expanding 19.13% Year-on-Year to 4,16,555 units compared to 3,49,674 units in July 2025.

Sequentially, PV retail registrations eased slightly by 1.68% Month-on-Month against June 2026's 4,23,677 units. Steady monsoon recoveries, GST 2.0 affordability benefits, strong rural buying, and rising alternative fuel adoption continued to propel consumer demand throughout the month.

Official Statement

Evaluating the historic performance, FADA Vice President Mr. Sai Giridhar stated:

“Passenger Vehicle retails came in at 4,16,555 units, up 19.13% YoY — the first time PV has crossed the 4-lakh mark in a July — though 1.68% lower MoM. The Bharat-led character deepened, with Rural PV growing 24.72% YoY against Urban’s 15.76%. Dealers credited GST 2.0 affordability, new launches and scheme support — 44.05% said OEM schemes supported July bookings — even as consumer hesitation around the E20 transition nudged buyers towards CNG, hybrids and EVs. The result is a fuel-mix moment of real significance: alternative-fuel share (CNG 24.67%, Hybrid 8.02%, EV 7.90%) reached 40.59%, within 1.09 percentage points of petrol’s 41.68% — a gap that stood at 13.21 points only a year ago — setting up a potential historic crossover in the coming months. On the channel side, PV inventory rose by another day over June-end to 33–35 days, well above FADA’s recommended 21-day benchmark. With festive stocking now beginning, half of PV dealers already reporting higher inventory and about a quarter carrying over 25% aged stock, we urge PV OEMs to align dispatches strictly with retail so that dealer capital is not trapped in aged inventory.”
