The Indian passenger vehicle (PV) segment continued its strong momentum in June 2026, recording its best-ever June retail performance. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total passenger vehicle retail sales reached 4,10,853 units during the month. In comparison, the segment retailed 3,19,412 units in June 2025, registering an impressive 28.63% Year-on-Year (YoY) growth.
On a sequential basis, the market also posted positive growth. Compared to 4,02,591 units sold in May 2026, PV retail increased by 2.05% Month-on-Month (MoM). FADA attributed this strong performance to healthy booking pipelines, better vehicle availability, fresh product launches and continued demand from rural markets. Another major milestone was the combined share of alternative fuel passenger vehicles, including CNG, Hybrid and EV, crossing the 40% mark for the first time.

Official Statement
Reflecting on the passenger vehicle segment's performance, FADA President Mr. C. S. Vigneshwar said:
"Passenger Vehicle retails were the standout at 4,10,853 units, up 28.63% YoY and 2.05% MoM — the best June ever. On a YoY basis the Bharat-led character remains intact, with Rural PV at +35.09% versus Urban at +24.67%; sequentially, however, Rural PV slipped 0.11% MoM against Urban’s +3.54%, mirroring the monsoon-linked rural pause. The defining milestone of the month: PV alternative-fuel share — CNG, Hybrid and EV combined — crossed the 40% mark for the first time, at 40.35% (CNG 24.33%, Hybrid 8.27%, EV 7.75%), with PV EV retails of 31,823 units an all-time high. On the channel side, PV inventory increased by 1 day over May-end to 32–34 days, moving further from FADA’s recommended 21-day benchmark. We once again urge PV OEMs to calibrate dispatches to retail through the monsoon-soft July window so that dealer capital is not locked in aged stock."
