Tesla Model Y Now Comes with Rs. 2 Lakh Discount
Google News

Tesla India has announced a discount of up to Rs 2 Lakh on the Model Y to clear unsold MY2025 stock. The offer is limited to the Standard Range variant in Stealth Grey with an all-black interior. It is priced at Rs. 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), and the discount is valid only while stocks last. Early bookings of the car were high, however, actual sales have been lower, prompting the price cut.
Slow Sales Despite High Bookings
The company had initially received around 600 bookings for the Tesla Model Y soon after its launch. Moreover, in the year 2025, 226 units of Tesla Model Y were sold in India. Apart from this, the manufacturer has imported approximately 300 units, but close to 100 units of the car are unsold.
Competition With Other Luxury EVs
Tesla Model Y comes in the market as a competitor to other luxury electric cars, like the Mercedes EQA & BMW iX1. Although it is an entirely imported brand, its demand in the Indian market has not reached the expected level. So, Tesla India has decided to give a discount to boost its EV sales in the market.

Global Challenges for Tesla
Tesla's lower sales are not only in India but also worldwide. In 2025, the company’s sales fell for the second consecutive year, with BYD overtaking it in several markets. Moreover, reducing subsidies and increasing competition in countries like the US, Europe, and China have impacted Tesla's market share.
