Tata Safari EV Spied Testing Ahead of Festive Season Launch
Google News

Tata Motors is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming Safari EV, spotted road tests for the first time. Nowadays, the model is positioned as the brand’s flagship electric SUV with its expected launch date during the upcoming festive season. The update is aimed to challenge Mahindra's XEV 9S.
Key Design and Technical Specifications Revealed
The heavily camouflaged test mule reveals that the Safari EV maintains a profile largely identical to its Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) counterpart. Looking through, it features squared wheel arches, standard roof rails, a roof-mounted spoiler, a raked windshield and wraparound taillamps. However, the electric variant incorporates distinct exterior updates, including a closed-off front grille, refreshed front and rear bumpers, and unique alloy wheels. Notably, the spied vehicle featured integrated side steps, an addition not found on the standard ICE version.
In the very core, the Safari EV will utilize the advanced Acti.ev+ platform, sharing a multi-link rear suspension setup. This is what it used in the recently launched Harrier EV. The component-sharing strategy with existing ICE and EV models is expected to keep production costs competitive.
Important technical and features highlights include:
-
Powertrain Options: Expected to feature 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs.
- Drivetrain Configurations: Available in both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) layouts, with dual motors reserved for the larger 75 kWh battery variant.
- Software Stack: Powered by Tata’s TIDAL architecture for Software-Defined Vehicles, supporting OTA updates and the iRA connectivity suite.
- Advanced Capabilities: Expected features include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, advanced ADAS, a 540-degree camera, and low-speed cruise control.
Safari EV’s introduction marks Tata's entry into the seven-seater electric SUV segment, which is currently led by the Mahindra XEV 9S. The Safari EV may deliver a slightly lower range than the Harrier EV's maximum 628 km due to its added curb weight. The starting price is estimated around Rs 22 lakh, positioning it as an aggressive competitor in India's growing premium EV market.
