BMW Offers Five Powertrain Options
The fifth-generation X5 becomes the first BMW model to offer five different powertrain choices. The lineup includes petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, and an upcoming hydrogen fuel-cell version. The all-electric iX5 uses a 141 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors. It produces 578 hp and 805 Nm of torque. BMW claims the iX5 can travel up to 845 km on a single charge. It also supports 460 kW DC fast charging.
The plug-in hybrid variants deliver up to 612 hp and offer an electric-only range of 102 km. Meanwhile, the petrol and diesel variants continue with six-cylinder engines supported by 48V mild-hybrid technology.
BMW will begin production of the new X5 at its Spartanburg plant in the United States in August 2026. The petrol and diesel variants will reach global markets in November 2026. However, the electric iX5 and plug-in hybrid models will arrive in early 2027.
