BMW Group is going to introduce the Mini brand in India by commencing local assembly of the third-generation Countryman. Currently sold as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), the move to Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits may lower the entry price. The manufacture is expected in BMW’s Chennai plant, making the premium SUV compete against BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
While the JCW All4 and the all-electric Countryman SE will continue as direct imports, Countryman is going to be a petrol-powered lineup.
The decision to assemble the Countryman in India follows the brand's record-breaking Q1 2026 performance. By utilizing the Chennai facility (which already produces the BMW X1), Mini can leverage shared platform architectures (UKL2) to streamline costs.
The locally assembled model is expected to debut in a new "S" trim, likely featuring front-wheel-drive to maximize value.
