Kia Sorento India Spec Model Revealed: Launch Date, Engines, Features And Price

Kia has revealed the India spec Kia Sorento ahead of its September 4 launch in India. The three row SUV will become Kia’s new flagship ICE model in the country. Kia has started Sorento production at its Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh.

The SUV will target buyers who want more space, premium features and multiple powertrain choices. It will be available with strong hybrid and diesel engines, with the hybrid getting all wheel drive.

Kia Sorento Gets Hybrid And Diesel Options

The Kia Sorento will be Kia’s first hybrid and first three row ICE SUV in India. Its hybrid powertrain will also bring AWD, making it unique in its segment.

The hybrid uses a 1.6 litre four cylinder strong hybrid engine. It produces 238hp and 380Nm of torque. The diesel gets a 2.0 litre engine producing 202hp and 441Nm. This engine is also used in the Kia Carnival.

Both versions are expected to use automatic transmissions. Kia says bookings for the Sorento are already underway.

Kia Sorento Daily Comfort Features

The Kia Car will get several features aimed at making daily driving easier. These include ADAS functions, a 360 degree camera and an electrically operated tailgate.

Other expected features include:

• Ventilated front seats, likely with massage function
• Panoramic sunroof
• Dual zone climate control
• Ambient lighting
• Digital interior rearview mirror
• Wireless charger
• Kia AI assistant

The Kia AI assistant will make its global debut with the India spec Sorento.

The SUV is expected to come in both six seat and seven seat configurations. This gives buyers more flexibility based on family and seating needs.

Kia Sorento: Design And Interior Details

The Sorento uses Kia’s older global design language introduced before the newer Seltos. It gets a Tiger Nose grille, vertical LED headlamps and Y shaped DRLs.

At the rear, it gets vertically styled tail lamps, a roof spoiler and a two tone bumper. The global model measures 4,815mm long with a 2,815mm wheelbase.

Inside, the SUV gets a connected dual screen setup for the infotainment and instrument cluster. The cabin also uses Kia’s dual purpose control panel for climate and media functions.

Kia Sorento: Expected Price And Rivals

Kia is expected to price the Sorento around Rs 30 lakh to 35 lakh (ex showroom). The company will announce final prices on September 4.

The Sorento will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian. High localisation could help Kia keep pricing competitive against these rivals.

The Sorento adds a new three row option for Kia buyers. Its hybrid AWD setup could also attract buyers wanting efficiency with added traction.
