Kia Launches Carens And Carens Clavis CNG Variants in India

Kia India has launched the factory-fitted CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis in India. The Carens CNG is priced from Rs. 12.11 lakh, while the Carens Clavis CNG starts at Rs. 12.39 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox and produce 95bhp and 123Nm in CNG mode. The CNG setup also brings changes to the suspension, brakes and cabin instrumentation.

The Carens CNG is offered in the Premium (O) variant, while the Carens Clavis CNG is available in the HTE and HTE (O) trims. The CNG variants are priced Rs. 99,000 higher than their corresponding petrol-manual variants.

Kia Carens CNG: Engine And Other Details

The Kia Carens CNG is offered in the Premium (O) variant with a factory-fitted CNG system. It uses the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox, producing 95bhp and 123Nm in CNG mode. Also, the 60-litre CNG tank is placed beneath the boot floor, reducing luggage capacity from 216 litres to 116 litres. 

Kia Carens Clavis CNG: Key Details Explained 

The Carens Clavis CNG is offered in HTE and HTE (O) variants, powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with a six-speed manual gearbox. The CNG setup produces 95bhp and 123Nm and includes a dedicated fuel-change switch and CNG Distance to Empty display. In addition, the model gets modified suspension, CNG-specific engine calibration and upgraded front disc brakes to accommodate the additional CNG hardware.

CNG Models Get Additional Features

The new CNG versions come with a dedicated CNG fuel change switch and a 4.2-inch colour TFT MID with a CNG Distance to Empty display. Kia has also modified the third-row seat-back frame to improve its recline angle.

These CNG variants retain the equipment and design offered on their corresponding petrol versions. The factory-fitted setup also allows Kia to offer the CNG system as part of the vehicle rather than as a dealer-fitted kit.

Kia Carens CNG Rivals

The Kia Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG compete with CNG MPVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rumion and Maruti Suzuki XL6. They offer buyers another three-row MPV option with a factory-fitted CNG system and a six-speed manual gearbox. Also, the CNG variants expand Kia’s presence in a segment where buyers have several established options.

The factory-fitted CNG setup is a notable addition, especially since the Carens previously offered CNG only through a dealer-fitted kit. The 60-litre CNG tank reduces boot space to 116 litres, which is the main compromise with the new variants. Buyers will need to consider this reduced luggage capacity when using the third row regularly.

Kia is expanding the Carens lineup across multiple powertrains with the Carens Clavis EV battery warranty extended to 15 years adding more focus to long-term EV ownership.
