Tata Motors has launched the 2026 Punch facelift with bold styling and new features. At the same time, the Punch EV continues to lead Tata’s electric charge. They look alike and share many elements, but they are built for different buyers. So, which one suits you better? Let’s find out.
From the front, both Punch models follow Tata’s modern design theme. But look closely, and you’ll spot key differences. The facelifted Punch has a slim black grille strip. The Punch EV, on the other hand, gets a closed-off panel for a clean electric look.
Their LED DRLs also tell them apart. The facelifted Punch uses separate LED DRL units. The EV gets sleeker DRLs connected by a light bar. Both work as turn indicators, but the EV adds dynamic indicators and welcome lighting. It’s a small touch that feels premium.
Both SUVs also share projector LED headlights, LED fog lamps, and a front camera for the 360-degree view. Even the skid plates differ slightly in placement, which adds unique character to each model.
From the side, these two are nearly identical. Both wear chunky body cladding, roof rails, and black ORVMs with turn indicators. The rear door handles sit smartly on the C-pillar in both cars. They both ride on 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. However, the Punch EV’s wheels are aerodynamically designed to improve driving efficiency. It’s a subtle but meaningful difference.
At the rear, the lighting design changes the whole look. The facelifted Punch gets new connected LED tail lamps. The Punch EV sticks to separate tail lights with Tata’s signature tri-arrow design. Even the badging differs, one reads “Punch” and the other proudly wears “Punch EV”. Both also feature silver-finished skid plates, though the EV’s come in a two-piece design.
Step inside, and the facelifted Punch clearly takes inspiration from the EV. Both now share the same two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo. The AC vents and climate control panels are also identical.
Still, there are differences. The petrol Punch uses a regular gear shifter and handbrake. The EV replaces them with a rotary drive selector and electronic parking brake. The cabin themes also vary. The facelifted Punch uses grey and blue tones. The EV uses a white-grey theme, which makes it feel more open and airy.
Both of these cars come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They also have features like a sunroof, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, wireless charging, and push-button start.
The Punch EV takes it a notch further with an even larger 10.25-inch digital driver screen and ventilated front seats. These features take the Punch EV’s cabin to the next level of premiumness.
Both vehicles have six airbags, ABS, EBD, hill start assist, and ISOFIX mounting points. Most critically, both have been able to score 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP safety tests.
The updated Punch comes with petrol and CNG engine options. It also comes with a new turbo-petrol model in Manual and AMT transmission, making it practical, familiar, and economical. At the same time, it’s worth mentioning that the Punch EV is an electrified vehicle. The Punch EV comes with two batteries, having a maximum range of up to 421 km. Additionally, it includes regenerative braking modes, which enhance efficiency.
