Tata Motors has reached a major milestone in India’s electric vehicle journey, as the Nexon EV has become the country’s first electric car to cross 1 lakh cumulative sales. This achievement clearly shows how electric mobility is gaining trust among Indian car buyers. In addition, it strengthens Tata Motors’ strong hold in the fast-growing EV market.
Nexon EV’s Role in India’s EV Growth
Launched in 2020, the Tata Nexon EV played a key role in bringing electric cars into the mainstream. At a time when EVs were still seen as niche products, the Nexon EV offered a practical, value-focused option for everyday buyers. Perhaps this balance of range, features, and pricing helped it gain wide acceptance across cities and smaller towns alike.
Over the years, Tata.ev has continued to build momentum. Today, more than 2.5 lakh Tata electric vehicles are running on Indian roads. Moreover, the company holds around 66 percent share of the electric passenger vehicle market, which means nearly two out of every three EVs sold in India carry a Tata badge.
How the Nexon EV Evolved Over Time
The Nexon EV started with a 30.2kWh battery offering a claimed range of over 300km. Later, Tata Cars introduced the Nexon EV Max with a larger battery and longer range, along with added comfort features. However, the biggest change came in 2023 with a major facelift.
The updated Nexon EV received a fresh design that clearly set it apart from its petrol and diesel versions. It also gained new-age features such as a larger touchscreen, ADAS, and a panoramic sunroof. As a result, the SUV continued to stay competitive even as new rivals entered the segment.
Features and Safety on Offer
Currently, the Nexon EV sits between the Punch EV and the Curvv EV in Tata’s lineup. It offers modern styling with LED lighting, a closed front grille, and aerodynamic details. Inside, buyers get features like a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and a premium sound system.
On the safety front, the Nexon EV holds a 5-star BNCAP rating. It also comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS. Buyers can choose between two battery pack options based on their driving needs.
