Nissan Tekton Production-Spec Mules Sighted Ahead of July Debut

Nissan Motor India is advancing final validation trials for its highly anticipated midsize SUV, the Tekton. This model is officially scheduled to make its global production debut on July 9, 2026. The latest near-production test mules have been spotted undergoing road testing, signaling the final phase of development. The launch will make Nissan re-enter into India's highly competitive C-segment SUV market.
Architecture, Exterior Differences and Technical Details
The Nissan Tekton is a badge-engineered derivative built on the Renault-Nissan alliance's RGMP platform, sharing similarities with the new-generation Renault Duster. Commonalities include upright silhouette, flat roofline, boxy proportions and C-pillar-integrated rear door handles. On the other hand, Nissan has applied distinct brand-specific visual styling for giving the model its identity.
The front fascia takes styling cues from the larger global Nissan Patrol. This can be deduced from features like horizontally bisected rectangular grille, specialized rectangular LED headlamps and a full-width upper LED lightbar. The rear gets unique square-shaped connected LED taillamps and a reworked bumper.
While lower-tier test mules were seen with steel wheels during homologation, top-spec variants ride on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The interior diverges from the Duster with a layered dashboard design incorporating gloss-black trims, metallic inserts and integrated central touchscreen.
Key technical specifications and anticipated feature offerings include:
-
Powertrain Lineup: Three engine options will be available. These are a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (100 PS / 160 Nm), a high-performance 1.3-litre turbo-petrol (163 PS / 280 Nm). Third, a 1.8-litre strong hybrid setup (160 PS) backed by a 1.4 kWh battery pack.
- Transmission Choices: Gearbox configurations will include standard manuals alongside a 6-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) for the 1.3-litre turbo motor.
- Cabin Electronics: Expected to feature a dual-screen digital layout, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and a Qi 2 magnetic wireless charging pad.
- Safety Technology: Top-tier trims will package a 360-degree camera system and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite.
The Tekton represents a critical product launch for Nissan India to rebuild volume share following the retirement of the Kicks. By leveraging local manufacturing at the Chennai alliance plant and parts sharing with Renault, Nissan offers a competitive price point. The expected price of Tekton starts at approximately ₹10.5 lakh. This pricing strategy positions the Tekton as a direct, value-driven alternative to segment benchmarks like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos upon its market launch.
