Mercedes-Benz India has officially overhauled its product lineup by discontinuing the A-Class Limousine, the EQA, EQB and EQE electric SUVs. The German luxury carmaker has delisted these vehicles from its official website after exhausting its existing inventory. This decision comes ahead of the launch of CLA EV - a high tech luxury sedan, scheduled to launch on 24th April, 2026.
This strategic pivot signals a move away from volume-driven entry-level luxury toward high-margin, top-end luxury segments. By streamlining its fleet, Mercedes-Benz aims to prioritize "value over volume", targeting High Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs) who prefer more exclusive offerings.
The decision to phase out these models stems from a noticeable shift in consumer demand. In the last fiscal year, Mercedes-Benz recorded a double-digit decline in its entry-level segment. While its top-end vehicle (TEV) category (comprising cars priced above Rs 1.5 crore) displayed a strong growth. Instead of engaging in price wars with competitors, the brand is focusing on its core strength: ultra-luxury and performance vehicles.
Following the discontinuation, the entry point into the Mercedes-Benz brand has become significantly more expensive. The GLA SUV now serves as the most accessible model in the internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup.

The removal of the EQA, EQB, and EQE SUVs does not mean a retreat from electrification. Rather, it prepares the ground for a more advanced generation of electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the all-new CLA EV on April 24, which will consolidate the entry-level electric portfolio into a single, high-tech offering.
Built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA), the upcoming model is expected to offer a range of up to 792 km. This allows the company to optimize its Chakan assembly lines and focus on "EV-first" platforms rather than ICE-derived electric models.
Mercedes-Benz is recalibrating its Indian strategy to focus on exclusivity. While the A-Class is gone, the upcoming CLA EV promises a superior tech-heavy replacement. Ultimately, the brand is betting that Indian buyers will pay a premium for high-end innovation over affordability.
