Suzuki eSKY Unveiled in Japan With 310km Range: Will This Compact EV Come To India?

Suzuki has unveiled the eSKY, a compact electric city car in Japan, with a claimed range of up to 310km. The new EV has been developed around Japan’s Kei car design principles, giving it a compact footprint suited to crowded urban roads.

Suzuki has developed it for crowded urban environments, where compact dimensions can make daily driving easier. The eSKY gets four doors and usable rear seats, unlike some smaller city EVs. However, Suzuki has not confirmed plans to launch the eSKY in India yet. If introduced here, it could target buyers seeking an affordable electric city car.

Suzuki eSKY Design And City Friendly Size

The eSKY follows a tall boy shape that prioritises cabin space within a compact footprint. It measures 3,395mm long, making it slightly longer than the MG Comet EV.

For context, the MG Comet EV measures 2,974mm, while the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 measures 3,530mm. The eSKY therefore sits between these two cars in length. Its design includes a flat front fascia, C shaped LED DRLs and smoked projector headlamps. The side profile gets large doors and 14 inch four spoke alloy wheels.

At the rear, wraparound glass gives the car a more modern appearance. C shaped LED tail lamps continue the design theme from the front.

The electric car was developed around Japan’s Kei car rules. These regulations limit vehicle dimensions to keep cars suitable for narrow city roads.

Suzuki eSKY Features And Safety Equipment

The eSKY focuses on practical equipment rather than a long list of premium features. It gets Suzuki’s new 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Key features include:

• Digital climate control
• Digital driver’s display
• Power windows for all four doors
• Cruise control
• Heated seats
• Automatic headlamps

Safety equipment includes ABS, hill hold control and an electronic parking brake. It also gets front and rear parking sensors with a rear camera.

Battery, Range And Expected Performance

The Suzuki eSKY gets a 26kWh battery pack and is expected to deliver up to 310km of claimed range. Suzuki has not revealed official power figures yet. However, the expected output could be around 60 to 70PS.

The compact dimensions and battery size suggest a city focused approach. Its four door layout could also make it more practical for families.

Will Suzuki eSKY Come To India?

Suzuki has not confirmed an India launch for the eSKY. However, its compact dimensions and city focused layout could suit India’s growing urban EV market.

If launched here, the eSKY could compete with the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV. The Citroen eC3X could also be among its potential alternatives. VinFast could add another rival with the VF3 or a related model. The eSKY could be priced somewhere around Rs 7 lakh if launched in India.

For now, Suzuki has not confirmed its India plans. However, its compact size, four door layout and claimed 310km range make it worth watching.
