New Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Launched

Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India at Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated three-door SUV comes with a revised exterior, a new engine lineup, updated suspension and steering hardware, and additional safety features.

The Thar OG is available only with a hardtop and comes in three variants: AXT, LXT and ZXT. Despite the updates, Mahindra has retained the existing starting price, while the higher variants get more equipment.

Mahindra Thar OG Gets New Design And Cabin Updates

The Thar OG receives a new five-slat grille, full-LED headlamps and an offset Thar logo at the front. It also gets redesigned front and rear bumpers, while the higher-spec versions feature new 19-inch star-pattern alloy wheels inspired by the Thar Roxx.

Inside, Mahindra has added brown leatherette upholstery to the cabin. The SUV continues with the larger infotainment system and redesigned centre console introduced with the previous update.

Three Engine Options Offered

The new Thar OG gets three engine choices, comprising two diesel units and one turbo-petrol unit. The 2.2-litre diesel produces 150 bhp and 330 Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel develops 117 bhp and 300 Nm. In addition, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol is the most powerful option, producing 174 bhp and 300 Nm.

A six-speed manual gearbox is standard across the range. The 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel also get the option of a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Updated Suspension And Steering

The Thar OG gets a Penta Link rear suspension with a Watt’s link, along with DAVINCI damping and Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD). Mahindra has also replaced the hydraulic power steering with an electric power steering system.

These changes are aimed at improving the SUV's handling and ride response across different surfaces. The brand has also worked on reducing engine noise inside the cabin for both petrol and diesel versions.

New Off-Road Hardware And Driving Modes

The updated Thar gets an electronic locking differential along with new Snow, Sand and Mud modes. These modes alter the traction control, steering, transmission shifts and throttle response according to the selected terrain.

Also, the new electronic differential replaces the earlier mechanical setup. Together with the revised suspension and steering, these changes add new hardware to the Thar's off-road package.

Mahindra Thar OG Gets Additional Safety Features

The new Thar OG gets HPTS airbags designed to provide protection around the head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder areas. It also comes with four-wheel disc brakes and front parking sensors.

The ZXT variant gets 15 additional features, making it the most feature-loaded version in the new lineup. Mahindra has therefore added safety and equipment upgrades without changing the SUV's basic three-door format.

Thar OG Variants And Price

The Mahindra Thar OG starts at Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), with the starting price remaining unchanged from the outgoing model. It is available in AXT, LXT and ZXT variants, offering different combinations of engines and features across the range. The AXT is offered only with the 1.5-litre diesel, while the LXT and ZXT get all three engine options.
