Lexus India has expanded its luxury portfolio with the launch of ES 500e, priced at Rs 89.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Marking a significant shift for the nameplate, the eighth-generation sedan arrives as an all-electric offering. Built on the TNGA-K platform, the ES 500e introduces a completely overhauled design language and enhanced dimensions.
Advanced Electric Powertrain and Design Evolution
The transition to a fully electric drivetrain is the highlight of the new ES. It is equipped with a 74.69kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor setup that produces a combined 343hp output. Lexus claims a driving range of 444km on a single charge. To support ownership, the company is providing an 11kWh AC home charger as standard. The vehicle's ground clearance has also been specifically raised by 20mm to 158mm to better suit Indian road conditions.
Exterior and interior updates include:
- Simple yet Provocative Design: Features a cliff-face nose, "twin L-signature" DRLs, and a coupe-like roofline, replacing the traditional spindle grille.
- Refined Cabin: A "Clean Tech x Elegance" interior with a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
- Luxury Comfort: Includes massaging rear ottoman seats, a Mark Levinson premium audio system, and a panoramic glass roof.
- Safety Suite: Equipped with 10 airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including radar-guided cruise control and lane-change assist.
The cabin focuses on minimizing visual clutter by replacing physical buttons with proximity-sensing controls. It also features music-synced LED illumination on the door pads.
The Lexus ES 500e represents the brand’s first major step toward full electrification in India. The increased ground clearance and comprehensive service package further directs the global model for the India specific luxury requirements.
