Kia Carens Clavis CNG Revealed in India, Launch Expected Soon

Kia India has revealed the Carens Clavis CNG ahead of its market launch, marking the brand’s entry into the factory-fitted CNG passenger vehicle segment in India. The company showcased the CNG technology alongside the launch of the new Sorento, while confirming key details of the upcoming model.

The Carens Clavis CNG will use the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG system. Prices, variants and official mileage figures are yet to be announced, but the launch is expected to take place soon.

CNG Version Gets Manual Transmission

The CNG version uses a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. In CNG mode, the engine produces 96 PS and 123 Nm, with Kia stating that the setup has been tested and calibrated for real-world use.

Kia has also made changes to the vehicle to accommodate the additional weight of the CNG system. The suspension has been revised, and the front disc brakes have been upgraded for the CNG version. The showcased Carens Clavis CNG gets a seven-seat layout, while the six-seat version is not expected to be offered with the CNG powertrain. It gets a dual-tone cabin theme with blue dashboard inserts. The displayed model also featured several exterior and cabin elements, including:

Alongside the Carens Clavis CNG, Kia has also confirmed a factory-fitted CNG version of the Carens. Both models will use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and CNG system.

The move expands Kia's three-row MPV lineup with an option aimed at buyers who cover high monthly distances and want lower fuel costs. However, the company has not yet revealed the exact variants that will receive the CNG powertrain.
