Official Statement
Mr. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India said:
“The first-ever BMW i5 Long Wheelbase is more than a new model launch; it is a defining statement of our India strategy. As our first locally produced electric sedan, it brings together the two strongest pillars of our future growth: electrification and long wheelbase luxury. Purpose-built for the expectations of Indian customers, it showcases our growing local manufacturing capabilities while reinforcing BMW's leadership in sustainable mobility. “
Mr. Brar further added that the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase combines a commanding presence, advanced electric technology and class-leading rear-seat comfort. The model delivers signature BMW driving dynamics while offering first-class chauffeur-driven luxury. According to his statement, the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase sets a new benchmark for modern executive sedans and raises expectations for electric luxury mobility, adding that BMW is not entering a new segment but creating one.
Car Junction Insights
We observe that the i5 LWB occupies a distinct position in India's luxury EV space. By pricing it competitively at INR 79.60 lakh, BMW directly targets chauffeur-driven buyers.
Its primary rival will be the upcoming long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz E-Class, alongside EV alternatives like the BMW i4 and luxury hybrid sedans. Local assembly gives BMW a strong pricing advantage over fully imported competitors. With the initial allocation selling out instantly, we expect the i5 LWB to drive substantial volume growth for BMW in India's executive EV market.
