BMW has launched the updated 7 Series and i7 in India, giving buyers a choice between petrol and electric power. The BMW 740 is the petrol-powered model in the 7 Series range, while the BMW i7 is the all-electric version. The lineup also includes the performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive, which sits above the i7 eDrive50.
Along with the new models, BMW has introduced updated exterior styling, upgraded cabin technology and additional luxury features across the range. The i7 eDrive50 also gets an upgraded battery, while the i7 M70 xDrive becomes the most powerful 7 Series model ever.

The updated BMW flagship range is available in three versions in India, with the BMW 740 and i7 eDrive50 sharing the same starting price. The i7 M70 xDrive sits at the top of the lineup with a higher price due to its performance-focused powertrain.

New BMW 7 Series Gets Updated Design and Technology
The new BMW 7 Series and i7 receive styling changes along with several technology upgrades. The exterior gets a cleaner design with an illuminated kidney grille, crystal headlights and newly designed rear lights. The M Sport package adds a sportier look with M-specific bumpers, 20-inch alloy wheels and M Sport brakes.
Inside, BMW has introduced its latest Panoramic iDrive system and BMW Operating System X. The cabin also gets a larger display and entertainment features, including:
- 17.9-inch central display
- 14.6-inch BMW Passenger Screen
- BMW 3D Head-Up Display
- 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen
- Executive Lounge rear seats
- Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System
The rear-seat experience remains a major focus, with reclining Executive Lounge seats and the large theatre Screen adding to the luxury-focused cabin.
BMW 740 Continues With Petrol Power
The BMW 740 continues with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 400hp and 540Nm of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission for smooth power delivery. The sedan can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, making it the quickest petrol option in the updated range. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
BMW i7 Gets More Range and Performance
The BMW i7 eDrive50 gets a larger 112.5kWh battery, increasing its claimed WLTP range to up to 728km. It produces 455hp and 660Nm and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.
At the top of the electric range is the i7 M70 xDrive. Its dual-motor setup produces 680hp and 1,015Nm in Sport mode. Torque can increase to 1,100Nm with Launch Control or Sport Boost. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a claimed WLTP range of 686km.
Charging and Driver Assistance
The i7 supports 250kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 28 minutes. BMW also offers a complimentary 22kW Wallbox charger with installation.
The new range gets features such as Parking Assistant Professional, remote parking using a smartphone and Reversing Assistant Professional. The i7 also gets Driving Assistant Plus with active cruise control with Stop&Go, steering and lane control assistance and blind-spot monitoring.
Car Junction Insights
The updated BMW 7 Series range gives buyers two distinct choices. The 740 caters to customers who still prefer petrol power, while the i7 eDrive50 puts greater emphasis on electric range. The i7 M70 xDrive takes a different approach, combining flagship comfort with sports-car-like performance.
