BMW has pulled back the curtain on its ninth generation sports sedan, in just a few days after its public sighting in Munich. The major BMW G50 3 Series reveal brings a big visual shakeup by adopting the minimalistic Neue Klasse design. Interestingly, BMW chose to keep combustion engines alive alongside electric options instead of going full electric right away. This fresh 3-Series 2027 model aims to blend iconic driving dynamics with modern tech, offering a unified lineup for drivers across global markets.
What Has Changed Outside?

The new silhouette looks clean and sharp. You will notice flush door handles that pop out automatically when you unlock the car. Up front, the iconic kidney grille and headlights merge into a single wide illuminated bar. Additionally, the M Performance models get yellow running lights that pay homage to classic race cars.
The side profile retains classic proportions like a longer wheelbase, short overhangs, and flared wheel arches. Flank character lines lower the visual center of gravity closer to the tarmac. Meanwhile, buyers can pick from light alloy wheels ranging between 18 and 20 inches for gas models, or up to 21 inches for electric versions according to details from the official BMW Group PressClub. An exclusive new color finish named M Le Castellet Blue metallic also debuts with this generation.
Inside the Cabin: The Panoramic iDrive

Inside, the physical buttons are mostly gone. BMW replaced the traditional cluster with a setup called BMW Panoramic iDrive, running on BMW Operating System X.
- Panoramic Vision: Key driving data projects straight across the bottom edge of the windshield directly in your line of sight.
- Central Screen: A large 17.9 inch touchscreen sits angled toward the driver on the dashboard.
- Voice Control: An upgraded assistant powered by Amazon Alexa+ handles complex spoken requests through natural conversation.
- Steering Wheel: A newly designed wheel features a central spoke in the upper section and optimized multifunction controls.
Additionally, the cabin offers standard electric sports seats, wrap around dashboard ambient lighting, and an optional panoramic glass sunroof with climate comfort glazing. For music lovers, a multi speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound system brings spatial audio inside.
Engine and Performance Options

Things get interesting here. Unlike currently available variants like M340i xDrive, BMW is officially dropping the lower case "i" from the names of its gas powered cars. The standard gasoline models will now carry badges like 320 or 330, keeping the letter "i" as a prefix purely for electric cars like the i3.
Gasoline and Mild Hybrid Models

The base 330 model packs a refined 2.0 liter turbocharged engine paired with 48V mild hybrid tech. It makes 255 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. All four cylinder petrol engines run on the efficient Miller combustion cycle to cut down fuel usage.
Meanwhile, speed enthusiasts can look forward to the flagship M350 xDrive which replaces the old M340i. It runs an upgraded 3.0 liter inline six engine producing 437 horsepower. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, matching the specs highlighted on Autoblog. Here's the catch for drift fans: selecting the M Drift Moment mode sends all power straight to the rear wheels for controlled sliding on track days.
Electric i3 Variant

The electric i3 model joins the lineup on an 800V architecture using new cylindrical battery cells. The i3 50 xDrive pushes 463 horsepower and offers an impressive estimated driving range up to 468 miles on a full charge. Fast chargers can add over 260 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Underneath, the electric chassis uses a central ECU called the Heart of Joy. This unit processes driving dynamics ten times faster than older systems, adjusting motor torque instantly for sharper handling.
Safety and Automated Driving
Safety gets a boost thanks to new artificial intelligence integration. The car features Level 2 driver assistance, including Motorway Assistant which allows hands free highway driving at speeds up to 81 mph in select countries. Furthermore, sensor upgrades help prevent collisions with crossing wildlife and delay motorized door opening if a cyclist approaches from behind.
Price and Global Availability
The 3-Series 2027 lineup sales will start in the first quarter of 2027, with primary focus in the western markets. The production of petrol models takes place at Plant Dingolfing in Germany, while the electric i3 rolls off the assembly line at Plant Munich.
The starting price is decided at $49,900 (approximately Rs. 47.03 lakh) ex-showroom, for the base 330 variant. Whereas, the performance focused M350 xDrive variant will be available at $65,900 or approx. Rs. 63.26 Lakh in US markets. Right hand drive deliveries for markets like South Africa and the UK will follow shortly after the initial global launch.
What About India? Expected Launch and Pricing
While Western markets get left hand drive models first, the Indian market outlook remains very promising. BMW India typically prioritizes the Long Wheelbase (Gran Limousine) iteration, which means the localized G50 launch will likely focus on an extended cabin version.
- Expected Launch Timeline: Local assembly at BMW Group Plant Chennai should begin in mid to late 2027, following the initial global rollout.
- India Engine Choices: Expect the standard 2.0 liter petrol and diesel mild hybrids to power the bulk of local sales. Meanwhile, the beloved M340i successor, the M350 xDrive, will likely arrive as a local assembly performance halo model.
- Estimated Pricing: Given current luxury market trends, the base 3-Series 2027 Gran Limousine will likely start around Rs. 65 lakh (ex-showroom). The top tier M350 xDrive will likely sit closer to Rs. 78 lakh to Rs. 82 lakh.
The official BMW G50 3 Series reveal proves that BMW wants to give drivers a real choice. Whether you prefer a twin turbo inline six or a fast charging electric sedan, this new 3-Series 2027 generation carries the brand into its next chapter with style.
The new BMW G50 3 Series showcases BMW’s evolving sedan design, while the BMW i5 visual walkaround offers a closer look at how that design philosophy translates into an electric model.
