Most people know the feeling of stepping into a luxury SUV. You usually get greeted by acres of shiny leather, chrome trims and a wall of buttons. It feels expensive, sure. But sometimes it also feels a bit overwhelming, right?
Volvo wants to do something completely different with the EX90 interior. Instead of filling the cabin with traditional flexes, they created a calm space. This feels more like a modern living room. So, there is absolutely no doubt that this cabin changes how we think about electric vehicle interiors.
Here is a full breakdown of what it is actually like inside the Volvo EX90.

Premium Materials That Break the Old Traditions

Let us talk about leather for a second. For decades, genuine leather was the ultimate symbol of a premium car. But times are changing fast and Volvo is leading that shift.
You will not find real animal leather inside the EX90. Instead, Volvo introduces a new material called Nordico. Interestingly, this fabric uses recycled plastic bottles and pine resin sourced from sustainable forests in Sweden and Finland. It feels soft, smooth and properly premium. You also get the option of responsibly sourced wool upholstery if you prefer a cozy fabric finish.
Additionally, the wooden trims on the dashboard are made from FSC certified wood. At night, warm light shines through these thin wood panels from behind. It gives the cabin a soft glow without hurting your eyes.
Here is the catch though. Eliminating leather is not just an environmental stunt here. The whole cabin feels lighter and fresh, making old school luxury cars look a bit outdated.
Technology That Stays Out of Your Way

Modern car tech can be frustrating. Screens are getting huge, menus are hidden deep and driving sometimes feels like operating a tablet. Volvo tried to fix this exact issue inside the EX90.
The center stage belongs to a massive 14.5 inch vertical touchscreen. It runs built in Google software, which means Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play work natively. You do not even need to connect your phone to get accurate live navigation. Apple CarPlay works wirelessly too if you prefer that ecosystem.
Meanwhile, there is a small 9 inch screen right above the steering column. It shows only the most critical information, like your current speed and battery range.
The system adapts to what you are doing. If you are parked, it shows media and charging options. When you put the car in drive, those options disappear to keep your focus on the road.
Underneath all this display tech lies heavy duty processing power from Qualcomm and NVIDIA. The screens respond instantly with zero lag. You also get over the air software updates, so the car gets better with time without visits to the dealership.

Sound System That Rivals a Concert Hall

We all love listening to our favorite playlists while driving on open highways. But road noise and bad speakers usually ruin the experience. Volvo took sound design very seriously in the EX90.
The EX90 features an optional Bowers & Wilkins setup with 25 individual speakers scattered across the cabin. The system pushes out an impressive 1610 watts of power and includes Dolby Atmos support. Interestingly, Volvo even put speakers inside the front headrests. This creates a personal bubble of sound for the driver and front passenger. Navigation directions can play directly into your ear without interrupting music for everyone else.
Additionally, double pane acoustic glass keeps wind and road noise out of the cabin completely. The result is a quiet cabin where every track sounds crisp and immersive.
Space, Comfort and Daily Practicality

A luxury SUV still needs to carry families and haul luggage without any drama. The EX90 comes in both six seat and seven seat layouts to match your family needs.
The front seats come equipped with heating, ventilation and a 10 point massage function. Long highway drives become much easier on your back with these seats working for you.
Meanwhile, the glass roof covers almost the entire length of the cabin. It uses laminated heat blocking glass that filters out infrared light and UV rays. That means the cabin stays cool even on bright summer days.
Here is the catch with space in large three row SUVs. The third row is often tight for adults, right? Volvo made sure adults can fit in the back of the EX90 comfortably for shorter journeys.
You also get plenty of clever storage spots. There is an open tray beneath the floating center console, large door pockets and a small front trunk under the hood for charging cables.
Safety Tech You Cannot See

Volvo built its reputation on safety and the EX90 interior takes that legacy further. The car actually looks inside the cabin to keep everyone safe.
First, there is a new interior radar system. Sensors placed across the ceiling can detect sub millimeter movements inside the car. The system detects if a sleeping baby or a pet is left in the back seat. If you try to lock the vehicle, it alerts you and keeps the climate control running to prevent heatstroke.
Additionally, twin cameras inside the steering column monitor the driver. The car tracks your eye movements and head direction to notice signs of tiredness or distraction. If you get sleepy or take your eyes off the road for too long, gentle alerts gently bring your attention back.
Finally, an advanced air purification filter cleans the air entering the cabin. It traps up to 95 percent of micro particles and allergens before they reach your lungs.
Verdict
The Volvo EX90 interior proves that electric vehicles can offer luxury without feeling chaotic or overly flashy. It relies on clean design, honest materials and smart safety features that work quietly in the background.
If you want a family SUV that feels like a quiet shelter from the noisy world outside, the EX90 cabin delivers on every front. Volvo did not just build another luxury interior here. They created a modern space where you actually want to spend time.
