Volkswagen ID Tiguan Electric SUV to Debut in October

New Delhi, September 29, 2026: Volkswagen will unveil its new ID Tiguan electric SUV in early October, with the model expected to reach international markets in early 2027. The EV will sit alongside the existing Tiguan, which will continue with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. Meanwhile, the ID Tiguan will replace the ID 4 and ID 5 in Volkswagen’s electric SUV range.

The upcoming EV is currently undergoing testing with camouflage. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that it will get a new design and a more spacious cabin. The company will reveal its production-specification details at the official debut.

Design and Dimensions

The electric SUV will feature slimmer headlights, redesigned rear lights and alloy wheels of up to 21 inches. It will also be 44mm longer than the ID 4, which should help create additional cabin space.

Volkswagen says the new model will have the visual presence of a vehicle from a higher segment. However, the company has not revealed its complete dimensions or final design details yet.

More Space and Physical Controls

Inside, the EV will offer a larger cabin along with new technology. Volkswagen is also expected to bring back some physical controls, including buttons on the steering wheel and separate controls on the dashboard.

The company has not shown the complete production-specification interior yet, so more details should emerge during the October unveiling.

Battery and Range

The SUV will use Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform and is expected to offer 58kWh and 77kWh battery packs. The smaller battery could power the entry-level version, while the larger unit is expected on higher variants, including the dual-motor Pro 4Motion.

For reference, the ID 4’s 58kWh battery offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 364km, while the 77kWh version provides 512km to 572km, depending on the variant. However, Volkswagen has not confirmed the ID Tiguan’s final range or power figures.

Replacing the ID 4 and ID 5

With the ID 4 and ID 5 making way for the new model, the ID Tiguan will take a larger role in Volkswagen’s electric SUV portfolio. In addition, the company is expanding its ID family by using familiar names for upcoming electric models.
