Google News

Volkswagen has officially revealed the ID. Polo, the first all-electric iteration of its iconic hatchback. This new model transitions the famous Polo nameplate into the electric era using the brand's updated MEB+ platform. Pre-sales have already commenced in Europe with an introductory price starting under 25,000 Euros (approximately Rs. 27.70 lakh). The ID. Polo debuts a new "Pure Positive" design language, featuring clean surfaces and a familiar silhouette.
Technical Specifications and Interior Technology
The ID. Polo is exclusively front-wheel drive and offers multiple battery configurations to suit different range needs. It provides significantly more interior space than its petrol-powered predecessor despite having similar exterior dimensions. The cabin adopts a minimalist approach but brings back physical controls for better usability.
Key highlights of the new ID. Polo:
- Battery Options: Available with a 37kWh LFP battery or a larger 52kWh NMC battery.
- Performance: Power outputs range from 116bhp to 211bhp, with a sporty 226bhp GTI version confirmed for later.
- Range and Charging: The 52kWh version offers a WLTP-claimed range of up to 454km. DC fast charging can reach 80% in approximately 24 minutes.
- Smart Features: Includes a 13-inch touchscreen, 10-inch digital cockpit, and "Connected Travel Assist" with traffic light recognition.
- Practicality: The car features a 441-litre boot and "Vehicle-to-Load" (V2L) capability to power external devices.

By retaining the "Polo" name, the brand leverages decades of heritage to attract traditional buyers to the EV market. The combination of a 450km+ range and premium features like massage seats sets a new benchmark for small electric cars. It effectively replaces the role of the classic Polo as a versatile, everyday vehicle for the modern age.
