VinFast Launches ‘Trade Gas for Electric’ Exchange Program in India
Google News

Vietnamese automaker VinFast has officially introduced its global ‘Trade Gas for Electric’ initiative in India. This program aims to accelerate the transition from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs). Additionally, the company offers a 3% discount on cars and up to 5% discount on scooters, replacing the ICE models.
Incentive Structure and Indian Market Strategy
The program lowers the price for first-time EV buyers by offering tiered discounts that stack on top of existing market promotions. While the initiative covers multiple Southeast Asian markets, the Indian rollout specifically focuses on VinFast’s current passenger vehicle portfolio. This includes the recently launched VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs.
- Tiered Discounts: Customers trading in an ICE vehicle for a VinFast electric car receive an additional 3% discount on the purchase price. In other global markets, a 5% discount is offered on electric scooters. However, this currently excludes India as VinFast’s two-wheeler division is yet to launch locally.
- Product Lineup: The offer applies to the VF 6, a compact SUV starting at approximately ₹17.29 lakh. Also, the VF 7 - a performance-oriented SUV priced from ₹21.89 lakh, gets the advantage. Both vehicles recently achieved five-star safety ratings in Bharat NCAP testing.
- Economic Drivers: The program is a strategic response to global fuel price volatility and is timed to coincide with the closing windows of various state and central government EV subsidies.
- Local Commitment: Supporting this retail push is VinFast’s $500 million investment in its Thoothukudi manufacturing facility. This boasts a production capacity of 1.5 lakh units annually.
By offering "layered" discounts, the brand is directly addressing the price-sensitivity of Indian consumers while promoting its high-safety-rated models. As Vinfest VF 3 is near to launch, these exchange incentives could be a stepping stone for establishing a foothold.
