MG Unveils Next-Generation Plug-in Hybrid Technology
Google News

MG has officially announced its all-new Plug-in Hybrid+ technology roadmap during its Tech Day event in the United Kingdom. This high-efficiency powertrain architecture will introduce semi-solid-state batteries and advanced automation systems across the global vehicle lineup starting from 2027.
Technical Architecture of the Plug-In Hybrid+ System
The newly developed powertrain aims to drastically lower carbon footprint while offering linear power delivery. MG intends to combine traditional combustion refinement with zero-emission efficiency.
- Engine Lineup: The powertrain architecture utilizes newly developed 1.1 litre and 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engines configured specifically for hybrid applications.
- Smart Gearbox Integration: The setup features an advanced hybrid transmission incorporating specialized power-split and motor decoupling technology.
- Acoustic Improvements: The decoupled motor configuration provides a significantly quieter purely electric driving experience during urban commutes.
- Initial Production Vehicle: The next-generation ZS Plug-in Hybrid+ SUV will officially debut this technology globally in 2027.

SolidCore Batteries and Advanced ADAS Solutions
Beyond mechanical transmission changes, the technological roadmap focuses heavily on chemical power storage improvements and sensor-driven electronic driver aids.
The future plug-in hybrid SUV range will adopt the brand’s proprietary SolidCore Battery hardware. This semi-solid-state chemistry layout offers consistent power outputs under freezing conditions and superior range stability compared to regular lithium-ion packs.
Simultaneously, MG is rolling out software updates for its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Built on 1.2 million kilometers of road data, the platform introduces a parking system that masters 300 unique parking scenarios. It also brings automated pull-out assistance alongside a reverse path memory system tracking up to 100 meters.
The newly announced technology demonstrates a clear transition pathway from traditional hybrid vehicles to highly software-defined, intelligent energy cars. While the initial reveal centers heavily on the European landscape, these hardware advancements carry massive relevance for developing global markets. JSW-MG Motor India has been actively pushing premium localization strategies across its clean-energy portfolio. Consequently, these vigorous hybrid setups and semi-solid batteries are highly likely to anchor India-spec premium SUVs in the future.
