Maruti Brezza Facelift 2026 Spied with Underbody CNG Tank

Maruti Suzuki has commenced road testing for the 2026 Brezza, which promises a major mechanical overhaul. Recent spy shots from North India have revealed a radical shift in how the vehicle handles alternative fuel storage. The company is experimenting with a new underbody CNG tank placement to reclaim lost utility.

Traditionally, CNG cylinders occupy the majority of a vehicle's boot, making long-distance travel difficult for families. This new design moves the heavy storage unit from the interior cargo area to the chassis floor. By shifting the tank outside the cabin, Maruti aims to offer a completely flat and unobstructed luggage compartment.

Innovative CNG Packaging and New Features

The new Brezza will move the CNG cylinder from the luggage area to the chassis floor. This is a direct response to Tata Motors' twin-cylinder technology, but it takes the concept a step further by utilizing exterior space.

Expected Technical Specifications:

  • Powertrain: 1.5-litre K15C DualJet petrol engine with factory-fitted CNG.
  • CNG Setup: Single high-capacity tank mounted under the rear floor.
  • Safety: Introduction of Level 2 ADAS and six airbags as standard.
  • Transmission: 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic options.
  • Interior: Larger 10-inch infotainment system with a revised dashboard layout.

The exterior also shows several cosmetic updates. The test mules feature redesigned LED tail lamps and a refreshed front fascia. New alloy wheels and updated bumpers give the SUV a more rugged stance.

Maruti is also focusing on premium comfort for this mid-life update. The 2026 model is expected to include ventilated front seats. A 360-degree camera and a sunroof will likely remain part of the top-tier trims.

The manufacturer’s decision to move the CNG tank under the body is a bold engineering move. With this, it prioritizes practical storage without compromising fuel efficiency. If successful, this setup could become the new standard for the brand’s future CNG lineup. Through this update, the company ensures the Brezza remains a top contender in the highly competitive compact SUV market.
