Hyundai i20 Achieves 15 Lakh Sales Milestone in India

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that the Hyundai i20 has crossed the 15 lakh cumulative sales milestone in India. Introduced in 2008, the premium hatchback has completed nearly 18 years in the country and remains one of Hyundai's longest-running models. Since its launch, the i20 has evolved with updated styling, improved technology, and enhanced safety features.

The achievement comes despite the growing popularity of SUVs, which have reduced demand for premium hatchbacks in recent years. Hyundai has broadened the i20 range with models like the i20 N Line and Knight Edition, appealing to a wider set of buyers.

Hyundai i20 Has Evolved Through Three Generations

The Hyundai i20 entered the Indian market as Hyundai's premium hatchback, replacing the Getz and offering a more upmarket alternative. Across three generations, it has received refreshed styling, improved safety, advanced technology, and a more premium cabin.

The Hyundai i20 is currently priced between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 11.74 lakh (ex-showroom). Buyers can choose from the standard i20, the sportier i20 N Line, and the Knight Edition, depending on their preferences.

Current Lineup Offers Petrol Power and Premium Features

The Hyundai i20 range is now available exclusively with petrol engine options. The standard hatchback gets a 1.2-litre Kappa naturally aspirated petrol engine with 5-speed manual and IVT automatic transmissions, while the i20 N Line is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120 PS and 172 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The current i20 also comes equipped with an extensive feature list, including:

  • Six airbags as standard
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation
  • Voice-enabled electric sunroof
  • Bose 7-speaker premium audio system
  • Wireless charger with Hyundai Bluelink connected car technology
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist

Since its launch in India, the Hyundai i20 has averaged more than 83,000 sales annually. Although annual volumes have changed over the years with the growing popularity of SUVs, the hatchback continues to remain a key model in Hyundai's Indian lineup.

Speaking on the milestone, Sunil Moolchandani, National Sales Head, Hyundai Motor India, said:

“The Hyundai i20 has been one of the most iconic products in Hyundai Motor India's portfolio and has consistently represented innovation, aspiration and premiumness. Crossing the milestone of 1.5 million cumulative sales is a testament to the immense trust and loyalty that customers have shown towards the brand over nearly two decades. We thank our customers for making the i20 a preferred choice in the premium hatchback segment and remain committed to delivering products and experiences that exceed expectations.”

Next-Generation Hyundai i20 Awaits India Launch

Hyundai has already introduced the next-generation i20 in Brazil with a refreshed exterior, updated cabin, and new technology. Although the company has not announced an India launch timeline, the new model is expected to arrive as the successor to the current-generation hatchback in the future.

The latest milestone highlights the Hyundai i20's enduring popularity in India. Despite the growing demand for SUVs like the Venue and Exter, the premium hatchback continues to hold an important place in Hyundai's portfolio.
