Hyundai Motor has launched its all new mid-size SUV for the Indian market, the Hyundai Bayon at Rs 9.99 Lakh (ex-showroom). The new Bayon sits between the brand’s sub-4 meter SUV Venue and the mid-size SUV Creta. It measures similar to Creta but boasts an all-new design, new features, a single engine option, and will rival with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Volkswagen Taigun and more. Read the details of Hyundai's newest SUV offering below.
A Fresh Exterior Design
Let’s start with the name, the Bayon name is taken from Bayonne, a city in the French Basque region. On the design front, the new Bayon holds a strong character with its sharp yet appealing look. The front gets sleek, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs with integrated turn signals, a sculpted bonnet, a dual-LED projector headlamp setup, blacked-out inserts on the bumper, and a faux skid plate.
Moving to the sides, the Bayon ride on 17-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, body-coloured door handles, ORVMs with integrated turn signals, roof rails, and blacked-out pillars. The sculpted body lines add to its bold appearance. At the rear, it gets an integrated spoiler, a vertically positioned high-mounted stop lamp, inverted L-shaped LED taillamps, and Bayon branding in the centre of the tailgate. Other highlights include a shark-fin antenna, rear wiper, washer, and defogger.
It measures 4,245 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,605 mm in height. It offers a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and a ground clearance of 205 mm.
Feature Loaded Interior

Like every other Hyundai SUV, the Bayon is packed with features to make the cabin experience more engaging. The cabin comes with dual-tone black and olive grey theme, it gets features like a panoramic sunroof, dual 12.3-inch curved displays one is a touchscreen for infotainment and other one is for the instrument cluster. The Koreans have integrated the new Hyundai Connected Car Navigation cockpit backed by NVIDIA hardware, it will come with over 70 Bluelink features, AI voice assistant, Perplexity and other software integration.
On the other hand, it also gets automatic climate control, Type C charging ports, electrically adjustable front seats, vertically stacked AC vents, a three spoke steering with multi function control, wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, dual-tone seats, ventilated front seats, BOSE audio system among other features.
The safety aspect is taken care of by 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, ISOFIX, rear parking sensors, hill-hold assist as standard fitment. However, the upper variants will get additional features such as 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, TPMS, Level 2 ADAS, along with other features. Overall, the Bayon comes with 35 standard safety features and around 80 safety features in its complete range.
Powertrain & Transmission
The new Bayon is powered by a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine. This will be the single engine that will be available with this new mid-size SUV. The 1.5-litre NA engine produces 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual and an IVT gearbox option. The IVT version will get Eco, Normal, & Sports drive modes and paddle shifters. In addition to this, the brand will launch the CNG powertrain option in January 2027.
Car Junction Insights
The new Hyundai Bayon could be a game changer in the mid-size SUV segment. The Hyundai Creta is already one of the top-selling mid-size SUVs, and the Bayon comes with the same pedigree as the Creta. It has all the potential to take on the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and other mid-size SUVs. However, the availability of a single NA petrol engine could impact sales of the new Bayon, but Hyundai knows how to pamper Indian customers with features, and in that department, the Koreans have not left anything out. It will be interesting to see how the Bayon performs in the coming months and how it stacks up against its rivals in a market filled with numerous options.
