Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) has officially revealed the complete safety suite and platform architecture for its upcoming car- the Hyundai Bayon. As per the company claims, the model is engineered around Global K Enhanced Platform to meet 5-Star Indian safety standards. Along with that, the crossover integrates active driver assistance, advanced passive structural engineering and standard safety equipment across all trim levels. To pre-book the model ahead of Oct-26 launch, buyers can reserve it through online portal or directly contact authorized dealerships for a token amount of Rs. 11,000.
Safety Equipment and Feature Highlights
The Bayon car incorporates a full spectrum safety ecosystem comprising over 80 safety features in total. Interestingly, more than 35 are offered as standard equipment from the base variant upwards.
Starting from the core built, Bayon is engineered with 69% Advanced Multi-Grade High-Strength Steel for high end safety. This includes Hot Stamping (HS), Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS), Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS).
Note: Hot-stamped components are strategically applied on the front apron, dashboard, rear floor and side reinforcements to absorb impact energy and minimize cabin intrusion.
Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS (23 Features): Powered by 3 radars and 12 parking sensors. Key autonomous functions include:
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW) & Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist for Cars, Pedestrians, Cyclists, Junction Turning, and Direct Oncoming
- Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, plus Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control for Zones and Curves (NSCC-Z & NSCC-C)
- Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Lane Following Assist (LFA)
- Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), Surround View Monitor (SVM), and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCAA)
- Safe Exit Warning (SEW) and Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA)
Standard Safety Package (35+ Features)
Out of the 80 advanced safety features, 35 features are such that they are definitely going in all variants, starting from the base trim. Main features include:
- 6 airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS High)
- Roll Over Sensor
- Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)
- ISOFIX child seat mounts
- 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats.
Apart from that, if talking of engine and transmission, Hyundai has cleared in the official unveil that the model is going to get a 1.5-litre four cylinder MPi petrol engine. Paired with this comes either a 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The combination will generate an output of 115 PS (84.4 kW) and 143.8 Nm of torque.
Exterior Colour Palette: Offered in 10 color options across Monotone (Titanium Black, Classy Blue, Atlas White, Fiery Red, Golden Bronze, Ecotronic Grey), Dual-Tone (Atlas White/Fiery Red with Black Roof), and Matte finishes (Titanium Black Matte, Classy Blue Matte).
Car Junction's Insights
We anticipate that through Bayon, Hyundai aims to set a new benchmark for structural safety and feature integration in the crossover space. Including advanced features as standard like 6 airbags, ESC and TPMS along with Level 2 Pro ADAS hints towards something unique. We believe the company is directly addressing the growing consumer demand for crashworthiness and crash avoidance in India.
Although official safety ratings are not out, but if it achieves full ratings, this may give Bayon a significant marketing edge. The move will easily put it above competition against main rivals like Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Kia Sonet. Final market traction will ultimately depend on how competitively Hyundai prices these safety-loaded variants during its October 26 price disclosure.
