Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) announced Usage Based Insurance (UBI) for eligible Bluelink customers today, November 5, 2026, in Gurugram. The program gives safe drivers a chance to earn extra insurance benefits. In certain cases, customers may save up to 15% on the own damage part of their insurance premium. Each customer gets a personal driving score, and they can share it with insurers at renewal time.
The program is open to eligible customers across all product range of Hyundai in India. However, the car must have Bluelink, and the insurance renewal date must fall within the eligibility window. In Phase 1, three insurers will take part: Cholamandalam MS General Insurance, Go Digit General Insurance, and ICICI Lombard General Insurance.
What the CEO Said About UBI
Mr. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, HMIL, shared his thoughts on the new program. He said, “Hyundai Motor India’s connected car ecosystem continues to witness strong growth, with over 0.8 million connected cars already on Indian roads, a target of 1 million cumulative connected car sales by 2027 and an ambition to reach 2 million connected car sales by 2030 through its Bluelink platform. Leveraging this expanding connected car ecosystem, the Usage Based Insurance (UBI) program extends the value of connected mobility beyond convenience and safety by rewarding responsible driving with personalized insurance benefits. In certain cases, customers may save up to 15% (basis insurers underwriting rules) on the own damage component of their insurance premium, making vehicle ownership safer, smarter and more rewarding.”
How UBI Works for Customers
The idea behind UBI is simple. Customers who drive safely should get a chance to pay less for insurance. Hyundai’s Bluelink technology records how a customer drives and uses the car. Based on this data, the customer receives a UBI score.
Insurance companies then use this score to decide on savings at the time of renewal. Hyundai India Insurance Broking (HIIB) will act as the link between HMIL and the partner insurers. It will help share driving scores, but only with the customer’s consent. In addition, HIIB will help customers get personal insurance benefits.
Which Score Unlocks Benefits?
Customers can check their score in the Bluelink App. A score of 70 or above may unlock insurance benefits. However, the final benefit depends on the underwriting policy and the terms and conditions of the partner insurer.
Customers whose insurance renewal is due within the next 90 days can view their score and see possible benefits. They can also track their eligibility in the app. Moreover, the app lets them share the score with insurers.
What if a customer scores below 70? Fortunately, they still have a way forward. The app gives personal driving tips to help them improve. In addition, customers may get rewards for building safer driving habits.
How Hyundai Calculates the Score
The score uses driving behaviour from the previous three months. It relies on data that comes straight from the car through the Bluelink platform. Therefore, customers do not need to buy or install any extra device.
The score looks at these key points:
- Driving dynamics, which include rapid acceleration, rapid deceleration, and rapid braking
- Speed control
- Idling behaviour, and a few other factors
This method gives a fuller picture of driving behaviour than traditional insurance models do. As a result, customers get an insurance experience that fits their own habits.

More Benefits Beyond Lower Premiums
UBI offers more than savings. First, it helps customers improve how they drive. Second, it helps them build a safer vehicle history. Third, it may raise the resale value of the car, because data backed insights show that the owner used the car responsibly.
Part of Hyundai’s Growing Bluelink Ecosystem
Hyundai continues to add value for customers through its Bluelink connected car system. Earlier, the company introduced the Digital Passport, which gives insights into vehicle health. It also launched the Remote Immobilizer, which adds extra security to the car. Now, UBI joins this list to promote responsible driving, safer vehicle ownership, and better savings on insurance premiums.
Overall, Hyundai’s new UBI program rewards good driving with real savings. It also gives customers clear data about their own habits. With connected car sales growing fast, Hyundai hopes more drivers will use this tool to stay safe on the road.
