
The Indian Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment concluded the financial year on a high note, recording its best-ever March with 4,40,144 units retailed. This represents a strong 21.48% Year-on-Year (YoY) growth compared to the 3,62,304 units sold in March 2025. On a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, the sector grew by 11.49% from February 2026’s 3,94,768 units. A key highlight of this performance was rural demand, which grew by 26.48%, significantly outstripping the 18.46% growth seen in urban markets.

Maruti Suzuki India
Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the Indian passenger vehicle market, retailing 1,72,814 units in March 2026 compared to 1,34,406 units in March 2025. This amounted a YoY growth of 28.58%. As the undisputed market leader, the company captured a massive 39.26% market share for the month.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors retailed 65,784 units in March 2026, securing a 14.95% market share. Compared to March 2025 performance where it sold 49,721 units, Tata motors achieved a 32.31% YoY growth. The brand continues to see success through its strong SUV lineup and dominant position in the electric vehicle (EV) segment.
Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra recorded sales of 55,420 units this month, a significant jump from 42,398 units in March 2025. This performance is largely driven by sustained demand for its popular SUV portfolio and a strong retail pull in rural regions.
Hyundai Motor
Hyundai Motor India maintained its strong market position by retailing 61,029 units in March 2026. The company captured a 13.87% market share and 24% YoY growth, benefiting from steady demand for its premium feature offerings.
Kia India
Kia India retailed 28,108 units in March 2026, up from 22,833 units in March 2025. The manufacturer captured 6.39% market share and gained 23.1% YoY sales, remaining favorite among tech-savvy consumers.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor
Toyota Kirloskar Motor showed impressive growth, retailing 27,533 units compared to 25,348 units in March-2025. The brand's success is increasingly tied to its popular hybrid and multi-utility vehicle offerings, resulted in 8.62% YoY growth.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen Group
The Skoda Auto Volkswagen Group retailed 8,765 units during the month. Compared to 9,504 units sold in Mar-25, the brand’s performance declined by 7.78% YoY. The group continues to cater to enthusiasts and premium buyers, focusing on safety standards and European build quality.
JSW MG Motor India
JSW MG Motor India retailed 6,269 units this month, reflecting a growing consumer interest in its tech-forward vehicle lineup. The brand growed by 12.61% YoY and captured 1.42% market share.
Honda Cars India
Honda Cars India recorded sales of 5,528 units in March 2026 compared to 5,146 units in Mar-25. This resulted in 7.42% YoY growth. The brand remains supported by its reputation for trustworthiness and its core sedan and crossover offerings.
Renault India
Renault India retailed 3,594 units, recording a strong 35.52% YoY gain. Their growth in supported by compact and affordable segments to sustain their retail presence amidst the evolving consumer preference for larger vehicles.
Luxury Vehicle Manufacturers
The luxury segment saw participation from major brands, with BMW India leading at 1,580 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 1,448 units. BMW growed by 14.16% whereas Mercedes Benz sales declined by 11.92% in monthly YoY performance.
