BMW Opens Pre-Bookings for X1 LWB Ahead of August 21 Launch

BMW India has officially opened order books for the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB), prior its introduction on 28-Aug. The luxury SUV serves as the internal combustion engine counterpart to the iX1 LWB EV. Local assembly will take place at BMW's production facility in Chennai, positioning it as the brand's most accessible ICE long-wheelbase offering in India.

Key Features and Technology Upgrades

The X1 LWB focuses primarily on enhancing second-row comfort while maintaining the modern cabin architecture of the standard model. Cabin upgrades include:

• Interior Space: Increases boot capacity to 540 litres alongside a 27mm higher rear seating position and 37mm wider headrest cushions.
• Display Infrastructure: Houses a curved display layout featuring a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver cluster.
• Comfort and Convenience: Equipped with powered front seats, automatic climate control, a powered tailgate, and wireless charging.
• Technology Suite: Integrates a Harman Kardon sound system, digital key access, connected car tech, and auto park assist.

Powertrain Lineup and Positioning

Internationally, the X1 LWB features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 204 hp and 300 Nm of torque. This engine comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission in both front-wheel drive (sDrive25Li) and all-wheel drive (xDrive25Li) configurations.

For the Indian market, BMW has not yet confirmed some crucial details. Whether it will introduce this higher output 2.0-litre unit or retain the standard X1's existing powertrains. Currently, two engine types give 136 hp from 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (sDrive18i) and a 150 hp from 2.0-litre diesel engine (sDrive18d).

By opening pre-bookings, BMW is preparing to capture demand from buyers seeking expanded rear legroom without moving up to a higher vehicle segment. The X1 LWB will occupy a unique market position upon release, operating with no direct long-wheelbase competitors in the entry-level luxury SUV space.
