Google News

BMW India has confirmed the official launch of the X1 Long-Wheelbase (LWB) for August 21, 2026. It is designed as the internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart to the all-electric iX1 LWB following its success. This new variant will serve as BMW's most accessible long-wheelbase luxury SUV in the country. Originally developed for the Chinese market, the extended-wheelbase SUV aims to cater to buyers seeking enhanced rear-seat comfort in the entry-luxury segment.
Extended Dimensions and Cabin Enhancements
The BMW X1 LWB features significant dimension increases over the standard-wheelbase (SWB) model. It measures 4,616 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, featuring a stretched wheelbase of 2,802 mm. This reflects a 116 mm increase in overall length and a 110 mm extension in wheelbase.
Inside, the additional length directly benefits rear-passenger space, delivering increased legroom, a 27 mm higher seat bench, and 37 mm wider headrest cushions. The boot capacity also expands to 540 litres compared to the standard model's 476 litres.
- Dimensional Stretch: Wheelbase extended by 110 mm; total length up by 116 mm.
- Rear Comfort Focus: Higher seating position, wider headrests, and expanded legroom.
- Cargo Capacity: Boot space increased to 540 litres.
- Tech Suite: Features a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital driver display.

Powertrain Expectations and Market Positioning
While the standard X1 in India offers 1.5L petrol and 2L diesel, global LWB production gets 2L four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This unit outputs 204hp and 300Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Positioned above the standard model's Rs. 50.90 lakh starting price, the X1 LWB will occupy a unique niche in India's entry-luxury SUV segment. While all this is without any direct long-wheelbase rivals.
