Summarize this blog post with:
Mercedes Benz has launched the all electric GLC 400 4MATIC in India at Rs. 78.50 lakh (ex showroom). The new luxury electric SUV is locally manufactured at the company's Chakan facility in Pune, Maharashtra.
It is the first Mercedes Benz India model based on the new MB.EA M electric vehicle platform. The SUV offers a claimed range of up to 711 km, dual electric motors and an 800V charging system. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid November 2026. Here is what Indian buyers get for the asking price.
Mercedes GLC EV price and India manufacturing details

The Mercedes GLC EV arrives as an important addition to the company's electric vehicle portfolio in India. Unlike several premium electric SUVs sold as imports, Mercedes Benz manufactures this model locally at its Chakan plant.
The company started local production on November 4, 2026. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar attended the production roll out. Senior Mercedes Benz AG and Mercedes Benz India executives were also present.
The new SUV shares the production facility with the company's internal combustion engine models. Mercedes Benz says this flexible manufacturing arrangement allows it to produce vehicles with different powertrains on the same production line.
The Electric GLC is also the first locally manufactured Mercedes Benz in India to use the MB.EA M platform. This architecture has been developed specifically for the brand's next generation electric vehicles.
According to Mercedes Benz India, the company invested an additional Rs. 200 crore in 2026. This investment supports manufacturing operations, new product start ups and production digitisation. Its cumulative investment in India now stands at Rs. 3,200 crore.
The GLC nameplate already has an established customer base in India. Mercedes Benz says the conventional GLC has found nearly 22,000 customers since its Indian introduction in 2016.
The company also received more than 550 expressions of interest for the electric version within the first 36 hours of opening bookings. However, expressions of interest should not be confused with confirmed bookings or retail sales.
Here is how the new electric SUV compares on paper:

The Mercedes Benz car uses two permanent magnet synchronous motors, one on each axle. This arrangement provides all wheel drive through Mercedes Benz's 4MATIC system.
Its 360 kW power output translates to approximately 489 hp. The combined torque stands at 800 Nm, which is available through the electric powertrain.
Mercedes Benz has also equipped the GLC with a two speed gearbox. The first gear focuses on acceleration, while the second gear supports efficiency at higher speeds.
The company claims a 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. Its electronically limited top speed stands at 210 kmph.
Mercedes GLC EV range, battery and charging explained

Range is one of the biggest considerations when buying an electric vehicle in India. Mercedes Benz addresses this with a 94 kWh usable battery pack and a claimed range of up to 711 km.
The Mercedes GLC EV range figure follows the WLTP testing cycle and is certified by ARAI. However, this figure should not be treated as the distance every owner can cover on Indian roads.
Actual range depends on several factors, including driving speed, traffic, outside temperature, air conditioning use and road conditions. Highway driving at higher speeds can also reduce the distance covered on one charge.
The battery uses nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry. It works with an 800V electrical architecture, which allows the SUV to support high speed DC charging.
The brand claims the GLC can add up to 303 km of range in 10 minutes. This is possible through a compatible DC fast charger with a maximum charging capacity of 330 kW.
However, the claimed charging speed depends on optimal conditions. The actual charging time can change with battery temperature, charging station output and the battery's existing charge level.
For home charging, the SUV supports AC charging at up to 22 kW. Buyers can use a compatible home charging installation, depending on their available electrical connection.
Mercedes Benz is also offering a public charging benefit through its MB.CHARGE service. The company says its integrated network provides access to more than 22,000 charging points across India.
There is an additional ownership option for customers who do not want the complimentary AC wallbox. They can voluntarily opt out of the wallbox and receive 2,500 kWh of free public charging credits instead.
These credits remain valid for 24 months from the activation date of the MB.CHARGE Public service. Customers must complete the service activation within seven days of the retail date.
The credits are linked to the vehicle identification number. Once a customer accepts this option, the wallbox kit and its associated installation components will not be handed over.
This gives buyers a choice between home charging hardware and complimentary public charging credits. However, the more suitable option will depend on their parking arrangements and access to public charging stations.
Mercedes GLC EV features: Screens, comfort and safety

The cabin is one of the major talking points of the new electric GLC. Mercedes Benz has equipped the SUV with a 39.1 inch MBUX Hyperscreen that stretches across the dashboard.
The seamless display measures 99.3 cm diagonally and uses 1,000 backlit LEDs. Its resolution stands at 7,680 x 1,260 pixels, with zone dimming for different display areas.
The system runs on the company's new MB.OS operating system. The brand describes it as an AI enabled vehicle architecture that connects infotainment, driving assistance, charging and body functions.
It can learn driver preferences and adapt certain vehicle functions. The system also supports intelligent navigation, over the air updates and personalised user experiences.
Another notable feature is the redesigned illuminated front grille. It uses 942 animated, backlit polycarbonate dots to create different lighting effects.
The SUV also gets a SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with illuminated Mercedes Benz stars. The roof features 162 stars, nine switchable segments and 64 different colours.
Here are some of the major Mercedes GLC EV features:
- Audio system: A Burmester 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers, 670W output and Dolby Atmos.
- Ambient lighting: Active ambient lighting with music visualisation and driving assistance related visual effects.
- Front seats: Heated front seats and a massage function.
- Cabin materials: Black open pore fine line ship's deck wood trim and illuminated air vents.
- Climate comfort: Heat and noise insulating glass for the windscreen and front side windows.
- Storage: Two wireless charging pads and USB C ports.
- Convenience: Electrically foldable rear seats and hands free access.
The Mercedes Benz cars also offers useful storage space for family trips. The brand lists boot capacity at 570 litres, which increases to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded. It also gets a 128 litre front storage compartment, commonly called a frunk. This provides additional space for smaller luggage or charging accessories.
Safety equipment includes nine airbags and the PRE SAFE system. Mercedes Benz also highlights high voltage battery protection before, during and after a collision.
The company offers Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as standard. The system uses eight cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
These sensors support functions such as braking assistance, blind spot monitoring and parking assistance. The brand says the ADAS package has been adapted for Indian driving conditions.
However, two functions need a separate availability clarification. Active Brake Assist with close range braking and Blind Spot Assist Plus are listed as digital extras. Mercedes Benz says these functions will become available from December 2026.
Mercedes GLC EV rivals and buyer considerations

At Rs. 78.50 lakh (ex showroom), the Mercedes GLC EV enters a competitive premium electric vehicle market. Its combination of all wheel drive, performance and claimed range puts it above several smaller luxury electric SUVs.
Some alternatives occupy lower price brackets, while others offer different body styles and equipment.
|
Electric SUV |
Ex Showroom Price |
|
BMW iX1 LWB |
Rs. 52.40 lakh |
|
Volvo EC40 |
Rs. 59.00 lakh |
|
Tesla Model Y |
Rs. 50.89 – 61.99 lakh |
|
Kia EV6 |
Rs. 65.98 lakh |
The BMW iX1 LWB is the cheaper way into an electric luxury SUV. It runs a 66.4 kWh battery, a claimed range of around 531 km and a single front wheel drive motor.
Tesla’s Model Y is a different ownership experience. The cabin is all about software, and there are two powertrain options. Claimed WLTP range runs from 500 km to 681 km, depending on the variant.
The Volvo EC40 goes for a coupe style SUV shape. Prices start at Rs. 59 lakh (ex showroom), and the estimated WLTP range is up to 530 km.
The Kia EV6 is the one for people who want something sporty. It costs Rs. 65.98 lakh (ex showroom), uses an 84 kWh battery and claims up to 663 km.
Then there’s the Mercedes GLC EV, which starts higher than all of them. It brings a 94 kWh battery, 800V architecture, 800 Nm of torque and a bigger tech heavy cabin.
Don’t pick any of these on claimed range alone. Rear seat comfort, charging access, service coverage, warranty terms and resale value matter just as much.
My take: check the service network near you before you fall for a brochure number.
What does the Mercedes GLC EV mean for Indian buyers?

At Rs. 78.50 lakh ex showroom, the electric GLC sits in expensive territory. And that’s before insurance, registration, local charges and optional extras land on the on road price.
Running costs depend on where and how you charge. Home charging is the easy route if you have dedicated parking and a proper electrical connection.
Public charging works on long trips, but costs vary between operators and locations. The complimentary 2,500 kWh charging credits soften the early public charging bills.
Mercedes Benz hasn’t given a single guaranteed running cost per kilometre for every owner. So don’t treat estimated fuel savings as fixed monthly savings. Honestly, anyone who quotes you a neat per km number is guessing.
Then there’s the Star Agility+ ownership programme. It lists an EMI of Rs. 97,000 per month, with four years of insurance and servicing included.
Mercedes Benz also advertises a 60% assured buyback after four years or 40,000 km under this programme. These figures rest on the stated financing assumptions, eligibility and programme conditions.
The illustration assumes a 20% down payment and a four year ownership period. Your actual financing terms, buyback conditions and monthly costs can differ.
Who should buy it?
The GLC EV suits people who already have home charging. It also fits customers who travel between cities often and can use compatible fast charging networks.
Short distance drivers can consider it too. But check whether the price fits what you actually need. If you have no private parking or reliable charging, ownership gets awkward fast.
First time luxury EV buyers, compare insurance costs and battery warranty coverage before you sign. Ask for a detailed on road quotation. Then check charging availability around your home and your regular routes.
Local manufacturing is a real advantage here. But local production alone doesn’t prove lower ownership costs or better resale value.
Mercedes Benz hasn’t announced a guaranteed resale value outside the conditions of its ownership programme. So think about long term depreciation before you commit.
The new electric GLC brings a longer claimed range, faster charging and a tech heavy cabin to Mercedes Benz’s Indian lineup. Its Rs 78.50 lakh ex showroom price will limit its reach, though local production and charging benefits add practical value.
Think about your charging access and real driving needs first. If you’re coming from a conventional luxury SUV, the electric GLC is a big change in powertrain and ownership. I’d call it a smart buy only for those with a home charger.
