Locally Assembled Land Rover Defender Launched in India, Prices Start at 99 Lakh

Jaguar Land Rover has officially launched the locally assembled Defender in India. Coming in the luxury off roading segment, the model will now be available starting from the ex-showroom price of Rs. 99 lakh.

The company used to import the SUV as a completely built vehicle with prices starting at Rs. 1.35 crore. Building the car locally allows the brand to offer much lower prices to Indian buyers.

Interestingly, India is the first market outside Europe to assemble the Defender locally. The smaller Defender 90 and the larger Defender 130 will remain full imports.

The now locally assembled Defender 110 gets the top X-Dynamic HSE trim in three engine types.

Engine Choices and Standard Features

Additionally, Jaguar Land Rover did not cut features despite lowering the overall price. The company added 29 features as standard equipment.

• 2.0-Litre Petrol Engine: The base 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine produces 296 bhp and 400 Nm.
• 3.0-Litre Petrol Engine: The larger 3.0-litre six cylinder petrol engine makes 394 bhp and 550 Nm.
• 3.0-Litre Diesel Engine: The 3.0-litre six cylinder diesel engine delivers 346 bhp and 700 Nm of torque.
• Drivetrain Setup: An 8-speed automatic gearbox handles power for all three engines. All wheel drive comes standard across the range.
• Standard Cabin Tech: Buyers get a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, Matrix LED headlights, and a 360-degree camera setup without paying extra.

Here's the catch for prospective buyers. The price drop mainly benefits the 3.0-litre petrol and diesel variants. Those versions see a massive price reduction of up to Rs. 34 lakh.
