As the undisputed market leader, Maruti Suzuki India retailed 1,58,509 units in April 2026, achieving a healthy 12.44% YoY growth compared to 1,40,971 units in April 2025. The company maintained a dominant 38.91% market share. This is largely driven by a significant revival in the small-car segment and its robust CNG lineup, which currently accounts for a substantial portion of its total sales.
Tata Motors demonstrated exceptional performance, retailing 57,688 units in April 2026 compared to 45,130 units in the previous year. This reflects a significant 27.83% YoY growth, allowing the company to expand its market share to 14.16%. The brand continues to benefit from a richer alternative-powertrain mix, with EVs now making up 5.77% of total PV sales.
Mahindra recorded sales of 55,236 units, up from 51,574 units in April 2025. While the brand saw a healthy 7.10% YoY increase in volume, its market share dipped slightly to 13.56%. Future growth is expected to be anchored in sustained SUV demand and improving rural liquidity following a healthy rabi season.
Hyundai maintained steady volumes with 47,449 units sold this April. Despite a 4.97% YoY growth in sales units, the manufacturer's market share contracted to 11.65%. The brand is likely to benefit in the coming months from refreshed product launches and a healthy booking pipeline.
Toyota continued its upward trajectory by retailing 27,006 units, a 5.46% YoY increase from the 25,609 units sold in April 2025. The brand currently holds a 6.63% market share. Performance is bolstered by strong demand for hybrid models and high-capacity utility vehicles in the current market mix.
Kia India reported sales of 25,226 units, representing a strong 12.78% YoY growth. This performance allowed Kia to maintain a stable market share of 6.19%. The company’s focus on premium features and SUV-led product strategies continues to resonate with urban buyers, who grew by 7.11% this month.
The group faced a challenging month, with sales declining 11.49% YoY to 8,913 units. Consequently, its combined market share dropped to 2.19%. To counter this, the group is looking toward new FY scheme cycles and potentially refreshed product iterations to regain traction in the mid-size segment.
Honda Cars India recorded a modest 5.71% YoY growth, reaching 5,346 units in April 2026. However, the brand's market share saw a slight reduction, moving from 1.39% to 1.31%. Traction is expected to improve as small-car demand shows signs of revival in Tier-3 markets.
JSW MG Motor India showed positive momentum with 6,064 units sold, marking a 14.76% YoY increase. The manufacturer successfully grew its market share to 1.49%. Growth is largely driven by their EV-heavy portfolio as the national EV share in PVs improved to 5.77%.
Renault India saw a massive 42.40% YoY surge with 4,087 units. Nissan Motor India also performed exceptionally well, growing 59.20% YoY to reach 3,047 units. Both brands are capitalizing on the "Bharat-led" story, where rural demand is outpacing urban centers significantly.
BMW India led the luxury pack with 1,448 units (+8.63% YoY), while the Mercedes-Benz Group saw a 6.07% decline to 1,330 units. Jaguar Land Rover India remained nearly flat with 450 units sold.
