Mercedes-Benz Reviving V-Class Back in India

Mercedes Benz announced its re-introduction of the V-Class luxury MPV again in India, and the launch is scheduled on March 3, 2026. Its previous version was on sale between 2019 - 2022. For Indian luxury car buyers, it’s a big relief for them as Mercedes Benz is now trying to gain a spot following luxury car trends in India.

Buyers will now see a facelifted version, as the company revealed globally in 2023. Features include updated exterior styling and enhanced interior technology.

Design and Interior Specifications

The upcoming V-class retains some traditional MPV features along with some newly added design inputs. This includes a larger U-shaped radiator grille, revised LED headlamp clusters, and new bumper designs.

Cabin Layout and Seating

The interior shows a significant technological upgrade over the previous model:

  1. Digital Interface: A new dashboard containing twin 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and the MBUX infotainment system. A contrasting feature is that it retains its physical buttons for climate and media controls, unlike the brand’s other newer sedans.
  2. Seating Configurations: Internationally, the model is available in 6, 7 and 8-seat configurations. The 6-seater "VIP" version features individual captain chairs with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functions.
  3. Rear Comfort: Features such as a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting and powered sliding doors are expected this time.

Powertrain Details and Market Position

This V-Class MPV is expected to feature a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. This may likely be in the 220d tune or the more powerful 300d tune. Both variants come paired with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

Market Competition

Upon stepping in, this V-class car will compete with those brands that have acquired significant volume in the Indian markets:

  1. Toyota Vellfire / Lexus LM: Currently dominates the luxury hybrid MPV space.
  2. MG M9: The recently launched electric luxury flagship.

Current estimates suggest that the Mercedes-Benz V-Class will be available between INR 1 Cr and 1.5 Cr. This depends on wheelbase or trim level, brought to India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.
