Google News

Maruti Suzuki has achieved 1 million cumulative vehicle dispatches through its in plant railway sidings at Hansalpur, Gujarat, and Manesar, Haryana. This supports the movement of Maruti Suzuki models such as the Swift, Baleno, Brezza and Grand Vitara from its manufacturing facilities to markets.
The milestone was reached on September 18, 2026, after three years and five months of operations. The company says rail dispatches help reduce fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions, and road congestion.
Maruti Suzuki 1 Million Vehicle Dispatches
Maruti Suzuki started operations at its Gujarat railway siding in March 2023, followed by Manesar in June 2025. The company is the first and only passenger vehicle OEM in India with in plant railway sidings at both manufacturing facilities.
An in plant railway siding is a dedicated rail terminal inside a manufacturing plant. It allows vehicles to be loaded onto trains after production without trucks reaching an outside railway station.
- Gujarat siding: Around 7.9 lakh vehicles dispatched
- Manesar siding: Around 2.1 lakh vehicles dispatched
- Combined dispatches: 10 lakh vehicles
Rail Dispatches Cross 3 Lakh This Fiscal
Maruti Suzuki’s rail based vehicle dispatches have crossed 3 lakh vehicles in the current fiscal year until August 31, 2026. The Gujarat and Manesar sidings accounted for 70% of the company’s total rail based dispatches during this period.
Overall, Maruti Suzuki has dispatched more than 3.3 million vehicles by rail since FY 2014-15. Its rail share increased from 5% in FY 2014-15 to 26.5% in FY 2025-26.
Maruti Targets 35% Rail Dispatch Share
Maruti Suzuki aims to increase its rail based vehicle dispatch share to 35% by FY 2030-31. The company plans further rail infrastructure investment, including an in plant siding at its new Kharkhoda facility.
For buyers, this shift mainly affects how vehicles move from factories to markets. It does not directly change vehicle prices, features, or daily driving requirements.
Rival carmakers such as Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra also compete with Maruti Suzuki in India’s passenger vehicle market.
