JSW-Chery iCAUR V23 EV Spotted Testing in Ujjain
Google News

Recent spy shots uncovered the upcoming Chery iCAUR V23 during a spy test in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, the snapshots hint towards its rugged look and specific rear design elements. It is expected to launch under the ownership of JSW Motors, independent of the joint venture with SAIC-owned MG Motor.
Rugged Stance and Technical Specifications
The sighting confirms that the iCAUR V23 (likely to launch under the new JSW Motors umbrella) maintains a boxy design. The neo-retro silhouette, inspired by classic off-roaders, is also the main highlight. Unlike previous urban sightings, the Ujjain test mule was seen performing high-speed highway runs, highlighting its stability and functional design.
Key observations from the recent spy shots and known global specifications include:
- Distinctive Rear Profile: The SUV features a flat, upright tailgate with a prominent external storage box mimicking a spare wheel cover. The tail lamps appear to be integrated lower into the bumper for a cleaner aesthetic.
- Off-Road Ready Proportions: Despite its compact 4.2-meter length, the vehicle boasts flared wheel arches and a high ground clearance. This positions it to rival the upcoming Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta EV.
- Powertrain Options: Globally, the V23 is offered with two configurations - first, a 134bhp 2WD version with a 59.93kWh LFP battery. Second, a more powerful 208bhp dual-motor AWD setup paired with an 81.76kWh battery.
- Range and Charging: The AWD variant claims a range of up to 430km (NEDC), while the 2WD model offers around 360km. Both versions support DC fast charging, a crucial feature for the Indian market.
Steel wheels were also seen, suggesting that currently the base or mid-spec variants are customized for local road conditions.
The Chery iCAUR V23 represents a strategic move by JSW Motors to establish an independent identity in the Indian EV space. The automaker also expects a local assembly at the upcoming Maharashtra facility by late 2026. With this, the V23 could provide a tech-heavy, AWD-capable alternative in the sub-20 lakh electric SUV category.
