Citroen eC3 Live Base Variant Set for Strategic Comeback

Citroën India is prepared to reintroduce the 'Live' base trim for its all-electric hatchback, the eC3. This move marks a significant shift in the brand’s strategy, aimed at both budget-conscious buyers and the growing commercial segment. By reviving this variant, Citroën effectively lowers the entry point into its EV lineup by over Rs. 2.6 lakh.

Aggressive Pricing and Functional Specifications

The return of the Live variant positions the eC3 as one of the most affordable mid-range electric hatchbacks in India. While the current 'Feel' trim starts at Rs. 12.91 lakh, the re-introduced Live trim is priced at Rs. 10.30 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing strategy is designed to directly challenge the Tiago EV and the upcoming affordable electric models from MG.

Key features and specifications retained in the Live variant include:

  • Powertrain Consistency: The Live trim continues to use the 29.2kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor. This combination produces 56bhp and 143Nm of torque.
  • Charging Capabilities: It supports both standard AC charging and DC fast charging. The DC fast charging can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 57 minutes.
  • Essential Equipment: To achieve the lower price point, the Live variant skips the 10.2-inch touchscreen and steering-mounted controls. But, retains power windows for the front and manual air conditioning.
  • Safety Suite: Standard safety features across the range include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

The vehicle maintains its 315km ARAI-certified range, a figure that remains highly competitive for urban commuting and last-mile delivery services.

The reintroduction of the eC3 Live variant is a tactical response to the increasing demand for affordable electric mobility. By stripping away non-essential luxury features, Citroën is pivoting toward a volume-driven model. If executed well, this "comeback" could significantly boost Citroën’s market share in the entry-level EV space.
