Audi A2 e-tron Unveiled: Smallest Audi EV Offers Up to 646km Range

Audi has unveiled the Audi A2 e-tron for global markets, marking its smallest electric vehicle yet. The new hatchback was revealed in Germany and targets European buyers.

Audi builds the A2 e-tron at its Ingolstadt plant, and it uses the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform shared with several electric cars. The EV focuses on efficiency, practical daily use and a long driving range.

Audi A2 e tron: Range and Battery Options

The Audi A2 e tron gets three battery options, with capacities ranging from 52kWh to 84kWh. Its claimed WLTP range varies between 423km and 646km.

The 84kWh version delivers the maximum 646km range with a 228hp motor. Audi claims an efficiency figure of 12.8kWh/100km for a specific efficiency focused configuration.

Key battery and charging details include:

• 52kWh battery: 423km range and up to 100kW DC charging
• 61kWh battery: Up to 105kW DC charging
• 84kWh battery: Up to 183kW DC charging
• 84kWh battery: 10 80 percent charging in 29 minutes
• 52kWh battery: 10 80 percent charging in 24 minutes
• 61kWh battery: 10 80 percent charging in 26 minutes

The smaller batteries use LFP chemistry, while the 84kWh battery uses NMC chemistry.

Power and Aerodynamic Design

Audi offers four electric motor options, producing between 168hp and 322hp. Torque output ranges from 350Nm to 545Nm.

The top spec version can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 5.7 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 200kmph.

Audi has focused heavily on reducing aerodynamic drag with the new hatchback. The A2 e tron gets a closed underside, aero optimised wheels and wing shaped door handles.

It also features gap reducers around the wheel arches to reduce airflow resistance. The car has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.24.

Audi A2 e-tron Interior and Features

The Audi car gets a simpler cabin than Audi’s larger models. Recycled fabric features across the interior, while several controls use touch sensitive technology.

A 12.8 inch touchscreen sits alongside an 11.9 inch digital driver display. The car also gets a new control panel behind the steering wheel.

Standard equipment includes a seven speaker audio system. Buyers can also opt for a 14 speaker Sonos system and a head up display.

Audi A2 e-tron Rivals and Price

Audi has positioned the A2 e tron as an entry level EV for European customers. Prices start at 38,200 euros, around Rs 41.92 lakh.

The A2 e tron will compete with electric hatchbacks and compact EVs such as the Volkswagen ID.3. Other MEB based models include the Skoda Elroq and Audi Q4 e tron.

For buyers, the long range version could reduce charging stops on longer journeys. However, Audi has not confirmed India specific pricing or launch details yet.
