Stellantis, Tata Motors Expand Partnership as Ranjangaon Produces 1.37 Million Vehicles

Stellantis and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to explore stronger collaboration in manufacturing, engineering and supply chain operations in India as well as overseas markets. The announcement comes as both companies mark 20 years of partnership through their joint venture, Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL).

Over the past two decades, this partnership has quietly grown into one of the key automotive collaborations in the country. The joint venture operates a large integrated vehicle and powertrain manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon, near Pune. Since the beginning of the partnership, the plant has produced more than 1.37 million vehicles. In addition, it currently provides employment to nearly 5,000 people and has an annual production capacity of about 222,000 vehicles.

Ranjangaon Plant Builds Jeep and Tata Models

At present, the Ranjangaon facility manufactures vehicles for both brands. For Jeep, the plant produces the Compass and Meridian, along with the Grand Cherokee (CKD) and Wrangler (CKD). On the Tata Motors side, it manufactures popular models such as the Nexon, Altroz and Curvv.

This shared production setup has helped both companies optimise costs and strengthen their supply chain. Moreover, the plant has developed strong expertise in handling different platforms and powertrains under one roof.

Leaders Speak on Future Plans

Grégoire Olivier, Chief Operating Officer, Stellantis Asia Pacific, said the MoU reflects the companies’ intent to build on the existing partnership. “As we commemorate this milestone, we remain focused on evolving the partnership to support future-ready manufacturing, innovation and sustainable growth in the region,” he said.

Similarly, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, highlighted the long-term understanding between the two groups. “We look forward to deepening this relationship with Stellantis in the years ahead,” he said.
