Mini Countryman C Arrives in India with Local Assembly Advantage
Google News

Mini India is launching the 2026 Countryman C today, expanding its premium line-up with a new entry-level petrol variant. This launch marks a strategic shift for the British brand, introducing local assembly to make the luxury crossover highly competitive in the domestic automotive market.
Local Assembly Drops Entry Price
The new Countryman C is assembled locally at the BMW Group plant in Chennai. This shift significantly reduces custom duty impacts. Consequently, the variant carries an official ex-showroom price tag of Rs 47.53 lakh. This aggressive positioning makes it much more accessible than fully imported sibling models.
Shares Powertrain with BMW X1
The luxury crossover uses similar power systems as used in BMW X1. The car is powered by a TwinPower Turbo petrol engine. This setup drives the front wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch Steptronic Sport transmission.
- Engine Output: The turbo-petrol motor generates a stronger 156 hp and 240 Nm of peak torque.
- Drivetrain Configuration: It uses a front-wheel-drive layout instead of the high-performance all-wheel-drive system.
- Color Palettes: Available shades include Smokey Green, British Racing Green, Nanuq White, Slate Blue, and Chilli Red.

Premium Cabin and Tech Upgrades
The interior features a clean dashboard design dominated by a 240 mm circular OLED touchscreen infotainment display. The cabin includes recycled knitted fabric materials, driver seat massage functions, a head-up display, and a panoramic sunroof. On the outside, it features a redesigned front bumper, an octagonal grille, and a contrasting roof layout.
Local assembly allows Mini to price the Countryman C competitively against rivals like the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40. While it sits slightly higher than basic luxury SUVs, it opens up a cheaper avenue for brand enthusiasts. This strategy could successfully boost the premium carmaker's overall sales volumes in India.
