Mercedes-Benz's Big Fuel Update: Every New Car Since January 2026 is E25-Compliant

Mercedes-Benz India has announced that all Mercedes-Benz cars sold since January 2026 are E25-compliant, making it one of the first luxury carmakers in the country to prepare its entire portfolio for a possible shift beyond E20 petrol.

Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer shared the update on July 23 during the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG E 53 plug-in hybrid in India. The announcement comes as the government expands India's ethanol-blending programme and prepares technical standards for higher ethanol blends, although E25 fuel has not yet been approved for nationwide use.

For buyers, this means new Mercedes petrol models are already prepared if fuel regulations change in the future.

E25 Compliant Mercedes Cars Ready

Speaking at the launch event, Santosh Iyer said Mercedes-Benz upgraded its India portfolio ahead of any future fuel regulations instead of waiting for a government mandate. He said the company wanted its products to be prepared for changing fuel and emission norms, even if E25 is introduced later.

Mercedes-Benz had also made its India lineup compatible with E20 petrol in 2020, years before E20 became mandatory across the country. More recently, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) notified technical standards for E22, E25, E27, and E30 fuels, indicating that work is underway for higher ethanol blends.

What E25 Compliant Cars Mean for Buyers?

For customers planning to buy a new Mercedes-Benz car, the announcement has reduced one future concern. If India eventually switches to E25 petrol, these vehicles are already designed to use the higher ethanol blend without requiring engineering changes.

However, this does not mean buyers should start looking for E25 fuel today. Petrol pumps across India currently supply E20 fuel, and the government has not announced any rollout date for E25. Buyers should continue using the fuel recommended in their owner's manual until official regulations change.

Mercedes Sticks With Multiple Powertrains

Mercedes-Benz also reiterated that it will continue offering petrol, battery electric, and plug-in hybrid models in India instead of pushing customers toward a single technology. According to Mr. Iyer, buyers should have the freedom to choose the powertrain that best suits their driving needs and budget.

Mercedes-Benz's decision to make every car sold since January 2026 E25-compliant is a forward-looking move rather than a response to an immediate policy change. While E25 petrol is yet to be introduced, buyers of new Mercedes models can be confident that their cars are already prepared if India moves beyond the current E20 fuel standard.
